****AFTERNOON SURF-UPDATE**** Howdy folks and welcome back to your baliwaves.com daily surf and weather report website coming to ya’s from your favourite holiday island destination of Bali.
Well I can happily say that the swell prediction professionals got it wrong with their predictions on swell around Indonesia over the last couple of days. This morning when I went down for a 7.00am surf recon of the Outer reefs there was easily 3-4 foot sets (head to a few feet over head high) coming through between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. The first of our tides today was a 1.9mtr High @ 6.30am and then we had a 0.8mtr Low around 12.30pm. Wind direction as usual for this time of the year was coming outta the ESE-SE. Not too strong first up this morning but easily reaching gusts of up to 15 knot by midday.
Kuta Reef had a a few smallies this morning on the higher end of the tide. Nothing special but there was at least half a dozen surfers out there catching waves in the waist to shoulder high class.
Middle Reef was producing set waves that were well over head and there was around a dozen surfers in the water by 7.30am
Aiport Left was breaking very nicely in the 3-4ft range and at the time I was on the scene there woulda been 15 surfers on it.
Canggu ; Sam Kench phoned through his report from up there and reckoned there was some ok wave breaking on all sections but the wind was slightly cross-shore. According to Sam there was something like 100 surfers scattered through the different sections.
Balangan had some very straight 2-3ft+ lines peeling down the reef when we cruised past in the boat and only around 10-15 surfers out there.
Impossible’s had waves in the chest to head high range and it looked like there was a pretty strong crowd of surfers scattered all along the reef.
Bingin , I didn’t see any waves actually break when we went past and the tide was still a bit too high (Bingin is a low tide break). But all the same there woulda still been at least 20 surfers bobbing around on the take off zone.
Padang Padang , too small.
Uluwatu had a strong crew of around 50 surfers spread between Temple’s all the way down to the Racetrack. Wave height was coming through in the 2-4ft+ range and it looked like there was another tube fest going down again today. Last night I also loaded some new photos onto the Bodyboard page for those interested in taking a look.
Weather wise it’s been a mixed bag of cloud and sunshine around Bali today. Temperature wise the mercury woulda peaked around 29 degree’s Celsius. Water temperature is still fairly cool for Bali sitting around the 19-20 degree Celsius mark.
Swell Forecast ; Ok so the charts have changed slightly and now it looks like we should still have plenty of waves in the 2-4ft+ range through the remainder of today and into tomorrow (Thursday). Then it’s showing a drop in size back into the 2-3ft range for Friday and into Saturday morning. Sometime through the late afternoon of Saturday we should see a new swell generating system hitting our reef breaks producing waves in the 4-6ft+ range peaking through Sunday and into Monday. Before tapering off back down into the 2-3ft+ range come next Tuesday
Bali Fishing New’s ; Yesterday I finally got around to loading up some of the photos I’ve taken of some of the fish we’ve caught over the last 4 weeks. Plus a bit of a run down on what we’ve been up to. You can find that on our Fishing Report Page in the Reports Menue.
Exchange Rates ; Well the way the Australian dollar has been crashing the last couple of weeks it’s been hard to say what it’s doing today but it would be still ranging between Rp7,800 – Rp7,900 depending on location. While the US$ is still pretty stable at Rp9,100.
G-land, drop us an email if you want to cash in on the 10% discount offer at the G-Land surf camp.
The boys from Kandui Surfing resort in the Mentawai’s have also sent us some sick sick photos of there recent swell and you’ll find those on there surf report page. Plus the crew from Macaroni’s Surf resort have also sent us new photos and surf reports from their part of the Ments.
We also have a NEW Home Base guest house close by to Airport Left and the other breaks of the Outer Reefs, 5 min walk. This place is more private and spacious with big air conditioned rooms, hot and cold water, tv and plenty of off street parking all enclosed in Balinese style. The rooms are AU$16.00 for a room with big double bed and AU$30.00 for a twin share room
