****MORNING SURF UP-DATE**** Good morning team and welcome back to your baliwaves.com daily surf and weather report coming at ya’s live from the N0.1 surfing holiday destination of Bali.
Ok so the big contest has been run and won so things can get back to normal again. I was down doing the surf recon of the Outer Reefs this morning at 7.00am. Not much happening out there this morning with only 1-2 footers breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. The first of our tides today was 0.5mtr Low @ 6.00am then we’ll have a 2.4mtr High @ noon and to finish off the day we’ll get another dry reef 0.1mtr low at 6.00pm. The ESE-SE Tradewind kicked in early this morning and is blowing straight off-shore between Legian and Uluwatu @ 6-10knot.
Like I said not much happening on the Outer Reefs, there was a small waist to chest high wave at Middle Reef through the early am. But as the tide fills in the only option for a paddle out there will be on Airport left. Kuta Reef wasn’t picking up hardly any swell and out of the surfing equation today. The boys from Home Base were up pre-dawn and heading back over to the East Coast to try and find a repeat of yesterdays great waves.
Weather wise we have some blanketing cloud cover to start the day but definitely no chance of rain. Come midday and we can expect the sun to be back out blazing away heading for a top temperature of around 31 degree’s outta the shade.
Swell Forecast ; Well just for a quick summary I see it as getting a small boost in wave height on Tuesday and backing back off a touch Wednesday. Then sometime around Thursday we get a better looking swell producing system hitting the island of Bali. Then further out again Saturday see’s another swell filling in for the weekend.
I’ve also dropped another 160 photos into the July Surfing Gallery so take a look at those while your waiting for the Video’s. The boys from Kandui Surfing resort in the Mentawai’s have also sent us some sick sick photos of there recent swell and you’ll find those on there surf report page. Plus the crew from Macaroni’s Surf resort have also sent us new photos and surf reports from their part of the Ments.
And just a reminder that we still have some baliwaves.com T-Shirts and FREE stickers available for ya’s here in Bali so drop me a line.
We also have a NEW Home Base guest house close by to Airport Left and the other breaks of the Outer Reefs, 5 min walk. This place is more private and spacious with big air conditioned rooms, hot and cold water, tv and plenty of off street parking all enclosed in Balinese style. The rooms are AU$16.00 for a room with big double bed and AU$30.00 for a twin share room.
For the surfer / fisherman out there, and isn’t there a little bit of fisherman in all of us ? Well you guys can take a look at the fishing report and photos from the last couple of trips out sport fishing here in Bali
Don’t forget if any of you lot want to grab some photos or video footage surfing here in Bali and we can easily arrange it for ya.
Money saver tip #752 : Anyone wanting to get out on a 3 island 7 day boat charter to Lembongan, Lombok and Sumbawa drop me a line cause I was talking to an operator last night and he’s offering the all inclusive trips for just AU$600.00 !!! Start organizing your crew now for the recommencement of these charters in March 08. Better still charter the boat privately with up to 10 of your friends for AU$6,000. all inclusive.
If it’s somewhere a little more private you’r looking for take a look at the private bungalow for rent we have in our Business Directory and drop the owner Michael Owen an email. Michael is one of the old school surfers who rubs shoulders with the likes of Gerry Lopez and Peter McCabe just to name a couple of Indo Legends.
Finally, I just wanna refresh ya’s about what baliwaves.com is all about. We’re not trying to flog ya’s surf trips or sell ya’s anything for that matter, we’re just trying to show ya’s how good it is here in Bali / Indonesia for a surfing holiday. We want you guys to come over and have a ball and then go back home and tell your friends how good it is.
Best Regards from the No.1 surfing holiday destination that’s got it all, BALI , see ya’s here in 2008

RipCurl Search Uluwatu 3rd August 2008
What a day of surfing! Congratulations to Bruce Irons, 2008 Ripcurl search winner. It started from heat one when Bede Durbidge current world number 3, was eliminated and the names at the top of the ratings continued to fall throughout the day. World number 5 Taj Burrow was last of the top rated men to go but he too fell just short of the prize.
The action started on the main peak at 9am and there was some solid waves coming through in the 4-6ft mark. It was a little less consistent than yesterday and heats were won on a little bit of luck. Being in the right place at the right time was sometimes all that it took. Everyone was surfing awesome and there was some mind blowing rides and commited turns every heat.
In the end it was the man Mr Bruce Irons who takes home the coveted trophy and was able to have his turn of spinning the world. In his semi final I watched him pull into one pit that was so deep on the race track section that most of the crowd inlcuding myself, wrote him off. There was a hiss from the wave as it spat a ton of spray and behind that emerged Bruce. He was so deep for so long, it truely was impressive to watch first hand the skill these surfers have riding waves.
The final became an all Hawian affair with Fred Patacchia. and Bruce taking apart the racetrack. Bruce was all over it, his committment to one end section saw him landing on nearly dry reef, making the most of that wave. It was in the last minute that Fred Patacchia took the first wave of the set, leaving Bruce the second one. My eyes were on Bruce as he went balistic, upside down turns and just destroying the wave. He had it in the bag and the celebrations began. Well Done.
Till next time. Scott.
