****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE**** And a big hello to all you surfers from all over the World tuning into the baliwaves.com for your daily dose of Bali surfing and weather medicine.
Well last night turned into another big one courtesy of my old friend Peter McCabe. Peter had just returned from a short 10 day trip over to G-Land that coincided with his 32nd aniversay of his first ever trip to the legendary left hand reef break. And seeing as though I hadn’t caught up with him for around 3.5 years we decided to have a cold beer or two and catch up on whats been happening. Our first cold Bintang went down at 1.00PM and the last one around 10.00PM. Lots of stories and laughs !
Good things have been going down with McCabe, he’s turned his surfboard shaping bisness right around and selling a lot of boards down in his home town of Newcastle Australia. Probably selling more custom hand made boards than any of the major retailers without even really trying. Holywood has also decided to do a full length documentary of his role in surfing in Indonesia as far back as the early 70’s. And according to Mr McCabe it’s going to be blasting the doors right off the hinges in regards to what really went down through the early years.
Ok getting back to our surf report, I eventually made it down to the beach for the Outer Reefs surf recon around 7.30AM to find (as mentioned) that wave height had jacked into a solid 3-5ft+ between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. Surfing conditions were pristine with the aid of clean ESE off-shore wind up to 10knots in strength.
Even though the tide was still too low I didn’t really take any notice of Middle Reef which was breaking in the solid double over head plus range. My eye’s were focused on the potential of what Kuta Reef was going to be doing as soon as the tide started pushing back in. And as ya’s can see in these latest photos it was pretty well a perfect 3-4ft+. But I also have to admit it was probably the most crowded I’ve seen it this year with around 60 surfers spread through the line up.
Tide wise today the first one was a 0.2mtr Low @ 7.30AM and then we had a 1.9mtr High around the 1.30PM mark.
Weather wise from a photographic perspective it was cloudy and shitty with the odd patch of blue opening up everynow and again. Even now at 2.20PM the sky is still a 50/50 mixture of blue and grey. Temperature wise the mercury is currently sitting around the 30 degree Celsius mark.
Swell Forecast (2nd – 7th October) small but fun sized waves are what we have today but maybe dropping off a touch through Friday and Saturday morning before a new moderate sized swell will start to show on the reefs around Saturday afternoon. This one should hold through till Monday and then finally fading back down into the 2-3ft+ range come Tuesday.
.Photo Up-Date; I also better let ya’s know that there’s another 120 photos been loaded into of Surfing Gallery for the month of September..
