Canggu 22nd May 09
I was on the road just after 6am this morning, headed north to Canggu to see if it was collecting the increase in swell that we were hoping to see today. I arrived about 45min later and straight away could see that there was plenty of waves and some good ones at that.
I watched the reef out the front of the warungs for a few minutes and then headed up to the river mouth as there was a crew of about 20 up there enjoying waves in the 3-5ft range. Just about getting max for Canggu, there was the odd close out wave but on the whole they were holding up and running off pretty sweet. Quiet a few of the boys were getting covered up and then there was plenty of wall to let loose your imagination and carve away.
The Japanese were there in full flight and unfortunalty I saw more than one blantently drop in. In one case there was a rider up and going was droped in by a non looking paddler, then finally looked at the rider already up didn’t pull off, and they both ended up getting smashed together. COME ON! learn the rules boys give some respect if you want to get it back….
By the time I left about 9am there was still about 20 on the river mouth, another 20 on the reef out the front of the warungs, nobody on the sandbar as most waves were closing out, and quiet a few over on old mans.
Ok well as you can see in these latest shots there was some sweet waves for the boys up at Canggu. I was shooting from land as my leg is still not completly healed. Although if this swell keeps building as it is predicted by the charts, then I may just have to get in the water anyway. Especially if Padang Padang starts breaking… Here’s hoping. Ok well thats it for me. Till next time.
