Kandui Surf Resort, August 16th surf report
Well, our swell came in today. Not as big as we expected, but there was still a lot of water moving. Unfortunately, the winds were strong out of the northwest and that forced all the boats to move to our area because the playgrounds was pretty much the only place handling that wind anywhere near here. It was a little disappointing, but we were to have our revenge! Many of the boats had to go in last night because their trip was over and all the rest except one moved on. We woke up to a glassy ocean and the swell was still pumping! The tide was a little low for Kandui first thing so a few of us headed for Rifles. It had a bit of morning sickness, but there were some fun ones. Our returning guest, Ramez, was stoked to get some waves out there before he had to leave in the afternoon. It wasn’t as good as he got it his last trip, but he was stoked to be out there again. Later in the morning, the winds turned east and the tide came up and it was Kandui time! It was big and a bit sketchy. The high tide wasn’t that high and waves were thick and lined up. There were some epic barrels and some epic wipeouts. We had to watch helplessly as some of the bigger bombs barreled perfectly down the reef. Unless your last name is Slater or Irons or something, you were not going to make that drop and have enough time to compose yourself for that freight training tube! But they were awesome to watch and we managed to get some consolation prize waves that were not too bad! Our next group arrived and they look like they have some good waves in their future. Stay tuned.
