****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE****
Hi crew and thanks for hanging around for todays news on surfing and weather conditions here on the merry little surfing holiday island of Bali.
Well after yesterday being another non event I was stoked to wake up this morning to no wind at all. So I made tracks down for a surf check on the Outer Reefs. Wave height had also improved over night with waist to head high plus waves breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. No surfers in sight at 8.00am and Middle Reef peeling off in the chest to head high plus range.
Surfing conditions were pretty much pure glass at the time, with the odd off-shore fluxuation through out the morning before swinging more to the S-SSE up to 12knot.
As you can see in these latest photos I shot between 10.00am -12.30pm Uluwatu still had some nice, clean waves breaking on all sections from Temple’s down to the Main Peak and RaceTracks. The Peak was picking up the most size with the odd double head high freak set. Probably somewhere around 50 surfers spread over 400yrds on the in coming tide. The wind started to turn to the S-SSE and mess up Temple’s and the Peak around midday, but still clean and smooth on the RaceTrack.
Weather wise I timed it so bad for my bike ride down to Ulu. Here in Tuban we had a nice sunny start to the day but looking down south toward Uluwatu there were some dark clouds brewing. And once again “Murphy’s law” struck me about half way there with heavy / no escape type rain that lasted all the way to the Ulu turn off. Right now at 4.00pm there’s more cloud rolling in and the chance of evening rain. Temperature wise today the mercury would have still topped out around the 28 degree’s Celsius mark.
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Kuta you’ll find that — 1AU$=Rp8,400 — 1US$=Rp9,450 — Rates will vary from vendor to vendor.
Holiday Season up-date, If any of you guys and girls have been here in Bali through the Christmas / New Year period then you’d know what to expect. For those of you that haven’t it’s the time when just about every Indonesian living outside of Bali decides to drive their car here. The end result is traffic KAOS for anywhere in the Kuta to Seminyak area, and I do mean traffic grid lock. Anyone who hasn’t had their hotel booked for at least 1 month in advance hasn’t got a chance. This all starts anytime in the next week or so and runs through till just after the New Year. It has begun !
