****MORNING SURF UP-DATE****
Hello surfers and welcome back to your baliwaves.com for the latest news on surfing and weather conditions here on Santa’s favorite holiday island of Bali.
Like I mentioned in yesterdays weather info we really had a solid dump of rain last night that didn’t let up till around 9.30am this morning. So my 9.30am surf check on the Outer Reefs was showing wave height to be still holding in the waist to head high plus range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. The tide was still too low for Kuta Reef and Airport left but still there was a couple of surfers on Kuta Reef catching some waist to chest high waves. Middle Reef was picking up a bit more size with the odd head to head high plus set and at least half a dozen surfers catching them.
Surfing conditions this morning are again perfect with a clean off-shore ESE wind @ 6-12 knot.
So looking for a wave today the best conditions are here along the West Coast from Kuta Reef to Uluwatu. And Uluwatu would be the best bet for more size and power.
Todays tidal info has a 0.4mtr Low @ 9.00am and then filling back in for a 2.0mtr High around the 3.00pm mark.
My old friend “the Doc” has also sent us through a surf report from Canggu along with a couple of photos and you can find those on our Readers Report page.
Weather wise today we were off to a very wet start, now at 10.30am the cloud has all but dissapeared and looking like we are in for a hot and humid afternoon. Heading for a top temperature of around 30 degree’s coupled with a very high humidity level.
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Kuta you’ll find that — 1AU$=Rp8,400 — 1US$=Rp9,450 — Rates will vary from vendor to vendor.
Holiday Season up-date, If any of you guys and girls have been here in Bali through the Christmas / New Year period then you’d know what to expect. For those of you that haven’t it’s the time when just about every Indonesian living outside of Bali decides to drive their car here. The end result is traffic KAOS for anywhere in the Kuta to Seminyak area, and I do mean traffic grid lock. Anyone who hasn’t had their hotel booked for at least 1 month in advance hasn’t got a chance. This all starts anytime in the next week or so and runs through till just after the New Year. It has begun !
If it’s clean safe and friendly accommodation here at Home Base in Tuban only 300mtrs back from the Outer Reefs, including A/C, hot water, refridgerator & TV for US$15.00 (Rp150,000) per night (single) or US$18.00 (Rp180,000) for a couple and US$25.00 (Rp250,000) twin share. Then contact slim.
We are also now sending out brief random surf reports and ravings through Twitter mobile phone service so sign up today !
As you all know we have been trialing a new photo viewing program to make it easier for you to flick through the photos on site. Ok, as you also should know is that we highly value our advertisers / sponsors, as they help pay our running costs / bills etc etc. So at the end of the trial period (1 month) if our advertisers / sponsors are still getting the same amount of views and visits then we will keep this system in place. If not then it’ll be back to the old system !!! So please make the time to visit the good folk who help keep the baliwaves on your monitor.
Now’s also a good time to start planning your 2010 Bali / Indo surf trip. If it’s an island hoping adventure on a live aboard surfing charter boat make sure you take a look at what the boys from www.indoocean.com have got on offer for you. G-Land, start getting your friends together for the ultimate surfing adventure at one of the surfing wonders of the World. Check out the guys at www.g-landsurfcamp.com for the experience. How about totally spoiling yourself at one of the private island resorts (Kandui / Macaroni’s) up in the Mentawai’s ?
Stuck for accommodation ? Drop Michael Owens a line if your after a fully self contained and very comfortable apartment in Kuta, I can’t believe it’s still available through the Chrissy and New Year period, so get on it fast.
We’d also like to wish all our supporters the very best for Christmas and the New Year !
Best Regards from Bali
Slim & Family
PS: we might take a break for Christmas day and just go surfing.
