****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE****
Hello surfers and thanks for taking the time out to drop into the baliwaves.co for todays news on surfing and weather conditions here on the ever popular surfing holiday destination of Bali.
Well once again this mornings surf check on the Outer Reefs of Tuban wasn’t showing any chance of a wave between Kuta Reef and Airport left at 1-1ft+. It’s a pity as surfing conditions were clean and smooth with a light WNW wind @ 2-4knot. Maybe down at Uluwatu you might have found a few chest to head high waves. Likewise up at Canggu around the top of the tide.
But I wanted some new photos on the baliwaves so I waited till 2.30pm and headed over to Serangan on the East Coast to see if there was anything happening. As you can see in the photos I snapped there was the odd freak head high set wave around every 30 minutes. But while I was there they always caught everyone of the 12-15 surfers out of position. Clean off-shore Westerly wind at Serangan with just a touch of south in it. But still there are a few waves for the crew who haven’t time to wait for the next swell to arrive. But it will come !
Tidal info for today had us down for a 1.5mtr High @ 8.00am and then running out for a 0.8mtr Low around the 2.00pm mark.
Weather wise more hot to very hot conditions along the beach, and the beach was the place to be. Temperature wise the mercury was cruising around the 33 degree’s Celsius mark, with a water temperature of 25 degree’s Celsius.
The stink is back along the beach between Kuta to Seminyak. I’m sure anyone who is staying close to the sand or frequenting the beach along that stretch has noticed the strong fishy smell in the water. Caused by the anual Pilchard run that has been on over the last week. These small Sardine like fish have been schooling in huge numbers just out behind the waves along Bali’s most popular stretch of beach. Which the local / Indonesian fishermen from Jimburan Bay have been netting non stop. Now the cause of the smell is that once these fishermen’s boats are full they just simply throw whatevers left in their nets into the water to wash up on Kuta to Seminyak beach.
Swell Prediction, Nothing in sight on the radar over the next 7 days. More small to micro sized waves ranging between 1-3ft depending on location.
Holiday Season up-date, If any of you guys and girls have been here in Bali through the Christmas / New Year period then you’d know what to expect. For those of you that haven’t it’s the time when just about every Indonesian living outside of Bali decides to drive their car here. The end result is traffic KAOS for anywhere in the Kuta to Seminyak area, and I do mean traffic grid lock. Anyone who hasn’t had their hotel booked for at least 1 month in advance hasn’t got a chance. This all starts anytime in the next week or so and runs through till just after the New Year. It has begun !
