****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE****
Howdy crew and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves for todays run down on surfing and weather conditions here the ever popular tropical surfing holiday island of Bali.
Well, this mornings surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban was as expected still only showing wave height to be trickling through in the knee high range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. Most importantly I was there to check the wind direction. Which was coming lightly out of the NW @ 2-5knot, unfortunately the short range website I used for wind direction was saying that the wind was supposed to drop off to nothing by midday…. Which wasn’t the way it turned out to be. We set off for Uluwatu, arriving to an empty line up with 1-3ft (knee to head high waves and a howling SSW wind of 12-17knot. But even so surfing Uluwatu to yourself ain’t such a bad thing, even if it is on-shore.
It was nice to chill out in the cliff side warung of Ulu again, just thinking about how good it will be from around March onwards… On the drive home I couldn’t help but notice all the new guest house / home stay accommodations being rapidily built. So by the look of things it’s going to be “catch 22”, great waves but crowded come June through to Sept.
Tidal info for today had us down for a 1.6mtr High @ 10.00am and then only just running out for a 1.0mtr Low around 3.30pm.
Next Moon Phase is going to be Full Moon on the 29th of Jan so we can expect to see much better tidal differences from the 31st onwards.
Weather wise it’s been nothing short of hot and sunny with a maximum temperature of around 32 degree’s on the beach.
Swell Forecast for the period 23rd Jan through till the 29th Jan isn’t looking real crash hot. Today Saturday is showing wave height to be still holding in the 2-3ft+ range on the more open swell locations. Sunday see’s wave height dropping off into the 1-3ft+ class before fading out to 1-2ft come Monday afternoon. Tuesday see’s a small bump in size putting us back into the 2-3ft range, that will hopefully hold through Wednesday. Thursday through to next Saturday and it’ll be back to 1-2ft+. NB: 2-3ft is equivilant to waist to head high surf. So nothing spectacular for Bali wave standards but still we should be able to find a wave or two if you know where and when to look. Plus who knows what may pop onto the radar between now and next week ?.
Swell Alert for next Sunday !!!!
