Macaronis Resort Report 2nd of March 2010
Hey Crew!!!
Well we’re back with another season at Macas Resort, and crikeys it’s warm over here after 2 months in Tasmania. Got some west coast trips on whilst home and got plenty of crayfish and abolone to go around which I miss the most spending the summer months in Indo. Although always nice to come back and get on to catching some big fish!! Speaking of which, there have been plenty of big GT’s swimming around in the channel on the way into the lagoon the past few days, a good sign for the good times ahead. Also got a new professionally made speargun, so should be able to bring a few home this year!!
I got to Macas last wednesday and have been hard at it marking out our reception building which is going up near the small jetty (with board storage area, accommodation for security and boat drivers, out-door shower for when you get back from the surf and key drop), a lagoon style swimming pool going in beside the cafe and a few other exciting developments coming up, asides from maintenance being done on buildings.
We have our 6.8m aluminum boat being renovated at this moment powered by 115hp (available for charter to breaks further afield than Bat Cave and Greenbush), and we have just purchased a brand new Quintrex 4.2m aluminum run about powered by 40hp, a Quintrex 3.9m aluminum for accessing local breaks and a 3.5m Quintrex that will become the new tender for Indies Explorer, as well as our two traditional dug out long boats.
The surf the last few days has been perfect in the medium size range 3-4ft. I was out at the tower looking at the possibility of puting some lights up for night surfing, and at that time it was a low tide but the waves were absolutely smoking peeling right down the point with absolutely no body out for at least 2-3 hours. The crew from King Milenium being the only boat in the bay, eventually got back out there, seems they must have had a fairly solid morning session!!
The last little swell lasted about 4 days and is a good sign that the roaring forties are kicking back in again sending some long period swells up this way. And on the horrizon we have a week of very long period swells coming up in the 1.6m range @15-19 sec which will no doubt produce Macas perfection for the week ahead, looks like it could be a repeate of last years great start to the season. Unfortunately I’ll be back in Padang departing tomorrow, to get our staffing organised for our opening on March 16, just 2 surfers booked if anybody is interested??? The following week we also have just 8 surfers….. please let us know if you’d like to join us!!
Anyway from 9th of March onwards we’ll have our camera gear out here and will be able to provide some shots of the surf for you to froth over. Shame we havent opened a little earlier, we actually had a cancellation of 12 guys booked for the first two weeks in March and looking at the swell charts its probable they’ll be kicking them selves. Well, except for the group leader who unfortunatley was in a car accident preventing the trip from going ahead, I hope your doing ok TB…!
