****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE****
Hi folks and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves.com for the latest news on surfing and weather conditions from here on the No.1 surfing holiday island of Bali.
Well it’s been a busy couple of days gone by for me but it’s all good. I shot these new photos down at Uluwatu yesterday morning between 8.00am and 11.00am. We headed down there with no expectations, just some small little waves and enough to get wet. So we were pretty surprised to find head to double head high set waves hitting the Main Peak. There were already around 40 – 50 surfers spread out from Temple’s down through the Main Peak and the waves were coming through consistantly. But as the tide started to drop so did the swell and by the time we packed up to head home wave height was more like chest to head high with the occassional head high plus freak set.
Later that afternoon I volunteered to drive a friend from the airport to his accommodation (Villa) up at Canggu. It was also a good oportunity to check out what was going down surf wise up there. Due to some insane grid locked traffic through Kuta, Legian and Seminyak the normal 40 minute drive turned into a 2hr crawl. Arriving around 5.00pm to find a very small and dismal 1-2ft wave on the reef break and sandbar sections and the odd head high set hitting the right hander on the river mouth. But it was good to kick back and enjoy a few cold beers and watch the sun set and prepare for the drive back to Tuban.
This morning the 9th and wave height here on the Outer Reefs was still only showing 1-2ft waves with the wind fresh out of the W-SW @ 7-10knot. So we took on the traffic again…. and headed up to Padma St in Legian to see if there was anything happening on the famous beach breaks found in that area. Wave height here was also only in the knee to waist high plus region (1-2ft) and blown out and junky from the on-shore wind.
So the high light of today’s effort to find a wave was having some “nasi campur Bali” for lunch on the way home.
Weather wise it’s been mainly hot and sunny with some cloud blowing over, but looking to the South and there were some more serious rain bearing clouds. Temperature wise here in Tuban the mercury would have easily reached 32 degree’s Celsius.
Ok so we have on-shore wind coming out of the West and totally out of the normal for this time of the year here in Bali. Not too mention the rain we are still receiving. Maybe tomorrow we’ll take another run over to the East Coast in search of greener pastures. So stay tuned here on the original Bali surf report website (since ’99). And don’t forget come Sunday and we are going to be seeing some serious surf right across Southern Indonesia.
Good news is that our assistant Ketut Pica will be returning to duty on the 15th of this month so when Ketut gets back you can expect the photos and reports to recommence flowing hard. Ketut has been helping out at his family village for the last 6 weeks. So it’s been pretty hard slogging with out him while he has been there I tell ya’s.
Traffic up date, man o man don’t even bother to attempt to go anywhere near Kuta to Seminyak with a car. At the moment it’s the Indonesian school holidays and as usual half of Indonesia is currently in Bali doing nothing but driving around and around in circles, creating total grid locks. This will continue until at least the 12th of July when the kids return to school.
