Quiksilver Indonesia is proud to announce Bali’s one and only 6 Star Prime Coca-Cola ISC sanctioned surfing competition of 2010, the Quiksilver Open, which will be held at the high performance right hand rivermouth surfbreak of Keramas Beach in Gianyar-Bali from the November 1-6.
The six days of intense surfing action that is scheduled will get started on Monday November 1st and see’s Indonesia’s top surfers competing for their share of the Rp 70 million prize purse in the ISC Open Division, with the winner taking home Rp 25 million and 3,500 championship points. The event will culminate with a full agenda of party action on Saturday night (November 6th) at the Hard Rock Hotel Centerstage and Hard Rock Café.
Adding to the intensity and excitement of the Men’s Open Division competition is the strong possibility that the 2010 Coca-Cola ISC Champion will be crowned on the final day of the Quiksilver Open. Current points leader Pepen Hendrik has a 2,675 point lead over second ranked Dedi Santoso and a 3,075 point lead over 2010 ISC Champion Lee Wilson, so with a win Hendrik could be celebrating his 2nd ISC Men’s Open Championship victory on the black sand beach of Keramas. His first was in 2004, also the first year of the ISC Tour.
Hendrik is excited to be competing at Keramas again, as it is his favorite wave in all of Bali and he has a history of podium finishes there over the last several years. “I really love the wave at Keramas,” he said. “When it is 4 to 5 feet it gives you so many options and lets you be very aggressive. At 6-8 feet it requires you to charge it, so you have to commit 100%. So I’m really looking forward to getting out there again.”
What about the championship and winning the event? “I don’t want to think about all that,” he responded, “I just want to go out and surf, and win each heat. Lee, Marlon, Betet, Raditya and others guys can surf Keramas really well, so it won’t be easy. The best thing for me is that I’m able to get out there and surf it with only a couple of other guys out,” he said with smile.
Also looking forward to the event with anticipation is 2010 ISC champ Lee Wilson, who claimed his title at last year’s Quiksilver Open with a semifinal heat win over Jake “the Snake” Paterson. “Although it doesn’t look like I’ll be hoisting the trophy at the event again this year,” said Wilson, “I’m so looking forward to getting out and competing at Keramas. I have such a good time surfing that wave, as it fits perfectly with my style of surfing. Whether I win or not isn’t the most important thing at this point, I just want to get out there and go big on every wave.”
Also competing will be Indonesia’s best women surfers in the ISC Women’s Division Roxy Open, as well as Indonesia’s best Over-35 surfers in the ISC Masters Division.
The Contest Director for the event will be non other than Quiksilver’s ex-World Championship Tour pro surfer Jake Paterson, who makes no secret about the fact that he loves his job. “Keramas is such a great wave for a contest as it gives the competitors the chance to do just about every type of surfing maneuver in the book,” he explained. “The result is that the level of surfing just keeps going up and up throughout the event, making for a really exciting time for everyone. We have six days to run the contest, which gives us time to choose only the best wave conditions to compete in. Everybody is happy about that, so I think I’ve got the best job in the world!” he added laughing
The six days of surfing action will culminate Friday night November 6 starting at 7:00 pm with the Best Surfers Party Night at the Hard Rock Hotel Centerstage, then moving over to the Hard Rock Café for the Best After Party at 10:00 pm.
Highlights of the evening’s agenda will be Julian Wilson’s “Scratching the Surface” movie premiere, the Roxy Short Short competition, a Quiksilver and Roxy Fashion Show and the Awards Presentation. The party will then move over to the Hard Rock Café where the band I Am Giant will put on what promises to be an epic performance of their powerful and edgy brand of rock music.
I Am Giant is a British band in which the video clips from their second single “Neon Sunrise” presents legendary American surfer Kelly Slater, and the video was viewed for more than 70,000 times on YouTube. “Every year the Quiksilver Open brings legendary world-class bands, such as Acca Dacca at the Quiksilver Open 2009, and this year we’ll present I Am Giant. This is proof that the Quiksilver Open as a surfing competition always presents the best and most legendary performers,” explained Paul Hutson, CEO of Quiksilver SEA.
Putting on Bali’s biggest and best surfing event of the 2010 Coca-Cola ISC Tour season is nothing but gratifying for Quiksilver’s Marketing Manager Simon MacGregor, who states, “We are delighted to be bringing Indonesia’s best men and women surfers to Keramas Beach to battle it out for Bali’s biggest surfing event of 2010 season in the Quiksilver Open and Roxy Open. Quiksilver has a rich history of supporting and growing the sport of surfing here in Indonesia, so we want to put on our biggest and best event coming down the home stretch of the ISC tour season. Capping it off with the best party at the Hard Rock will be the icing on the cake!”
To support this event, Quiksilver also is also launching a special promo of a Free Quiksilver Open Tshirt and Cap for every purchase of IDR 1,500,000 or more at all Quiksilver stores.
