****MIDDAY SURF UP DATE****
Hello surfers and thanks for dropping by the baliwaves.com (’99) for our Sunday Session and the run down on today’s surfing and weather conditions here on every sane surfers favorite surfing holiday destination of Bali.
Just to reassure you all that you weren’t missing out on anything yesterday first. Saturday was pretty much a wash out with strong W-WSW wind and on and off rain all day. This morning started off pretty much the same with more strong WSW wind and heavy rain. Our 7.00AM surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban was purely just out of habit and only showing wave height to be a very wind blown knee to knee high plus between Kuta Reef and Airport Left.
I did have intentions of making my way back up to Keramas to hang out for the Keramas Board Riders contest being held up there today. But due to other things happening I’ve got KL up there on our behalf. KL has phoned through to say that wave height has also dropped off at Keramas this morning. Clean conditions at 9.30AM with wave height in the waist to waist high plus range. Baliwaves.com had contributed a cash prize for the comp (best tube ride), but seeing as though there’s no barrels today we have opted for all competitors names to go into a hat for the cash.
The crew staying here at home base took off for Nusa Dua earlier this morning, looking for the location that’s going to be attracting the most swell over on the East Coast. I’ve been trying to get hold of them but their phones are ringing out. So there must be some waves over there hey.
Tidal info for today has a 0.9mtr Low @ 9.00AM and then filling back in with a 2.0mtr High around the 3.30PM mark.
Weather wise well the rain clouds have moved on after this mornings heavy rain. Some blue sky and sunshine now at midday but there is still a big chance of more showers later this evening.
Swell Forecast: The next 6-7 days are looking pretty ordinary according to the charts. Small waves between waist to head high at best with strong westerly wind included.
Keramas Development: After mentioning the new surf resort development underway at Keramas on my Feb 25th report I was contacted by the surfers in control of the project. Exactly what I was hoping for, so I could here there goals and objectives. I was reassured that everything has been done correctly and with the locals always in the picture. In fact I’d say they are giving quite a lot back to the local village through their operation, from cash pay outs, cash royalties, employment and on going tourism education. But as everyone knows, you can’t please all the people all the time.
NB: The owners have been working on this project for the last 3 years and have also been consulting with the ISC (Indonesian Surfing Circuit) through out the time.
So, now I know !
Night club danger; New’s came through to me over this weekend of an Australian having the shit kicked out of him by no less than 6 security staff in a Kuta night club on Friday night. Apparently the English or Australian owners gave the order to the security staff…. Caruso’s Bar.
