****AFTERNOON SURF UP DATE****
Hi folks and I’m glad you found time to drop into the baliwaves.com (’99) again today to see what’s been going down here surfing and weather wise on the with out a doubt No.1 surfing holiday destination of Bali.
This morning (5.30AM) started off wet and windy here in the Tuban / Kuta area. First off I thought we might be in for a “lay day”, but by 7.30AM the 10 – 14knot Westerly had geared back to around 8knot. So we hit the road for Keramas. We were hoping to see a little more swell showing this morning but our first glimpse at Keramas had 30+ surfers in the water and wave height at waist to chest high plus, with clean and glassy surfing conditions.
First surf the boys opted for the right hander at the “car park” seeing as it was pretty much the same size as the main break but only with 5 other surfers on it. It was only another 5 mins after entering the water that a SW wind and rain squal blew through so we moved up to the shelter and reletive comfort of “Agungs Warung” located right in front of the take off zone on Keramas and kicked back.
The bad weather soon blew over and the wind soon disappeared, just to put the icing on the cake wave height also started getting bigger with each set. Before long Keramas was cranking out head to well over head waves as smooth as glass. The number of surfers now left in the water was back down to 15+ so it was time for another quick session. We had to get one of the boys back to Kuta for his dentist appointment or I reckon we would have hung out all afternoon.
This coming Sunday the 27th the local surfers are finally going to hold their own club contest at Keramas and should be a super fun day. We’ll be up there hooting with everyone else so tune in for a look Sunday evening if your interested. There’s also been some really shitty stuff go down at Keramas development wise. Probably by the end of next week the two warungs that have been feeding and sheltering (not to mention the hospitality) surfers from all over the World will have been ripped down and gone forever… These warungs (cafes) are/were, owned and run by locals, this new development is foreign owned and that SUCKS !
Tidal info for today had us penned in for a 0.5mtr Low @ 8.00AM and then filling in with a 2.3mtr High.
Weather wise it’s been another ordinary overcast type day with a few scattered drops of rain falling around the island. Temperature wise a humid 28 degree’s Celsius.
