****AFTERNOON SURF UP DATE****
Howdy folks and once again welcome back to your baliwaves (’99) for today’s 1 click run down on surfing and weather conditions from the one and only real deal surfing holiday destination of Bali.
Ok this mornings 6.00AM surf check on the Outer Reefs of Tuban was looking very promising, for a short while. First off there was absolutely no wind and my first glimpse of Kuta Reef was of a head high wave peeling off with no surfers in sight. But by the time we got back there with our boards the wind was just starting to come up out of the NW and within the 40mins it took us to have a cuppa and grab our stuff there was already 15 surfers out there.
Next choice for us was to bee line it up to Canggu and score some waves before it gets shut down for the Oakley surfing contest that will commence tomorrow with a 2 week waiting period. As it shows in today’s photo gallery I snapped the right hander on the river mouth was producing some fast and punchy waves and no shortage of local talent ripping it up. The sand bar was a bit too washy and not lining up properly, but still a few for the 2 surfers that were on it. The left hand reef out the front of the cafes also had the odd good one coming through with around a dozen takers. NB: What’s with people calling this wave Echo Beach ? there is no Echo beach in Bali.
More trouble at Canggu again today. When we pulled into the car park in front of the sandbar there was one other car in the lot, there was also a team of Balinese men erecting some frame work for the contest tomorrow. Around 15minutes later a pretty young girl came walking up the beach and to the other car next to ours. 2 minutes later she came back towards me almost in tears. She had locked her car, but some bastards (on a death wish) still jacked it. The scaffolding crew were busy with their work and never saw anyone near the car. That’s just how brazen these bastards are in this area, if they get caught I’m sure they won’t be stealing again.
Tidal info for today had us down for a 1.8mtr High @ 9.00AM and then running out for a 0.8mtr Low around the 2.30PM mark.
Weather wise today it’s been another perfect sunny morning with some light cloud cover just starting to move over us now and take a bit of the sting out of the temperature.

Night club danger; New’s came through to me of an Australian having the shit kicked out of him by no less than 6 security staff in a Kuta night club. Apparently the English owners of the bar gave the order to the security staff…. Caruso’s, Crusoes, (some name like that anyway) Bar in Kuta. NB: No one deserves to be gang banged by security staff, if it happened in any other part of the World the place would be shut down, at the least.
Best Regards in Surfing
Slim
