****AFTERNOON SURF UP DATE****
Hello surfers and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves (’99) for the latest news on surfing and weather conditions from here on the No.1 surfing holiday destination of Bali.
The boys and I started off today’s wave hunt with a 6.30AM surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban. It didn’t take long for a trained eye to tell that wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport left was only trickling through in the knee to knee high plus class.
So seeing as though a couple of the lads had never seen Keramas breaking, except for in the 100’s of surfing DVD’s that are on the streets. That’s where we headed for, arriving around 7.30AM our first glimpse was of 1-2ft+ waves in front of the car park. It wasn’t looking too impressive but still a couple of fun sized waves with clean and glassy conditions. The boys only lasted an hour in the water as with the approaching high tide it was only going to get fat.
On the way back home I thought I’d make another stop and take a look at Serangan. Wave height was slightly better there, coming through in the waist to head high class. But also getting full and fat with the impending high tide. Around 40 surfers in the water at Serangan and a nice day for the surf schools to dominate the line up.
Just for the record Tidal info for today had us down for a 2.0mtr High around the 9.30AM mark and then running back out for a 0.7mtr Low just after 3.00PM.
Weather wise it has and still is just another hot and sunny day here in Bali. Temperature wise the mercury would have easily busted into the low 30’s on the Celsius scale.
Swell Forecast is saying that we should see another small to medium sized swell starting to show sometime on Sunday afternoon. This will take us through to Tuesday and then another quick bump in swell come Thursday. Further out there is a more moderate looking system that should arrive early next weekend.
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Kuta (Bemo Corner) — 1AU$=Rp8,975 — 1US$=Rp8,690 — Give or take a few Rupiah depending on vendor.
I’ve also noticed a lot of Police out everywhere doing random license and rego checks, not just pulling over surfers, but stopping every car and motor cycle when ever possible. I think it’s a good thing keeping everyone on the road honest and legal. So if your planning on driving / riding yourself around here in Bali make sure you bring an International driving / riding license with you.
