Kandui Surf Resort Mentawai Islands
May 12th surf report
We were so tired from all the surf we have been getting that I think everyone was secretly hoping the swell would drop overnight so we could get some rest. No such luck! In the pre-dawn light, it looked smaller at 4 Bobs but I was drinking my first cup of coffee trying to focus on Rifles. There was something going on up there so I took a closer look with the ski. Five minutes later I was back to the restaurant sounding the alarm! It’s on again boys. The few guys that were up tried to get a little coffee in there system as they scrambled for their boards and we were surfing as the sun came up. Or, should I say, we were getting barreled off our asses as the sun came up!!! This could have been the best session yet. A little smaller than yesterday, but perfect conditions with about a 2 mile an hour offshore wind and absolutely no one around. There were only five of us for the first hour or so, then the rest of our crew got out and we surfed for another two hours before anyone else showed up. Then what looked like an armada of boats arrived about all at once. The wind went a little side shore, it got inconsistent, and we were just laughing about our good fortune as we went in for breakfast. Our bodies were so spent. On my last wave, I think my whole body cramped up! I was done. I don’t think the boats were around one hour before they were over it and left. It just wasn’t that good anymore. And then, as you could have guested, it got glassy again! We were too tired to get on it right away, and we wanted to avoid the midday sun, but one of our friends and his 3 guests surfed it by themselves for 3 hours! We got on it just as they left and surfed it the rest of the afternoon by ourselves! It was not like the morning, but still plenty good and with great conditions. I have to send a couple of more sequences of today. Please, can this swell go away so we can rest!!!
