Kandui Surf Resort Mentawai Islands
May 14th surf report.
Our lucky guests left today with smiles on their faces. We had a great run of epic surf and zero to light crowds. It was one for the books. We were looking through pictures and there were a couple of sequences of me on great waves and I have absolutely no recollection of them. Nothing! I know I’m getting old but, damn, that has to mean it was good! This group left it all on the field as well, surfing hours on end everyday. I couldn’t keep up with them! After that epic morning session on the 12th, it was over for me. I have stubbed toes on both feet because I didn’t even have the energy to lift my legs properly walking around the resort. I’m serious! There were still little waves yesterday, and even a few legit ones, at Rifles and there were only a couple of our guests out there to catch them. The guys even got a little surf at Rifles this morning before they had to go, and 4 Bobs had fun waves too. It was a great trip! Bob’s epic wave at Rifles at the age of 63 with an almost 80 shot sequence to prove it, Matt’s slab at Bankvaults which had one of the biggest barrels I have ever seen out there, Al’s wave of his life which he keep bettering every day, RG’s marathon sessions, Claudio’s epic barrel at Kandui’s,… Just a ton of great memories with a great group of people.
And it’s not just death barrels out here. There are plenty of waves that are just fun. Attached is a few photos of the guys getting some waves with a bit less adrenaline associated with them.
We’re looking forward to a fun trip now as well with a few swells forecast in the next 10 days. Maybe one fairly solid one towards the end of the trip as well. Fingers crossed!
