Kandui Surf Resort Mentawai Islands

We got up early again today, energized by our success yesterday. The winds were a little west for Nupusi/Bankvaults though, so we headed for Burgerworld. The same two boats were there, the same mellow bunch of guys, the same fun waves! We surfed for a couple of hours, but the swell started to get bigger and wash the place out a bit so we packed it in and headed for Beng Beng. Fun, fun! Only 2 guys out and overhead sets. We surfed it until early afternoon when all the liquid on the boat had been exhausted and our stomachs were growling. We left it still pumping in fun waves and empty, but we were done! Our second boat left the island closer to mid morning and went to Hideaways. The winds had turned a bit south by then and conditions were good. Better when you consider that there was only a few guys on it! They surfed it until their hunger got the better of them and they came back for lunch. I saw their pictures. They scored! We got a Hideaways session after lunch as well, but a little squall came in and blew it out. I don’t think anyone cared. We are going to rest up because the swell is suppose to be bigger tomorrow!
June 8th Surf report
I had a good feeling about this new trip, and so far so good! We got a little bit of Rifles on the first day, along with some good 4 Bobs. Since then we have been surfing some fun waves, but it’s been admittedly crowded from time to time at Nipusi and even on our island. Northeast winds are just not giving people a lot of options. Today was really nice though. We got up early and split the our first boat between Bankvaults and Nipusi. Both places were overhead, empty, and with perfect conditions! After a couple of hours of surfing fun waves by ourselves, a few boats from other resorts showed up. We were just ready to head back for a late breakfast when the winds went west and we instead headed for Burgerworld. There were only 2 boats on Burgerworld when we got there and those guys were on the tail end of their vacation, thus very laid back. Most of them got out once we were in the water and we surfed great waves for hours on end. Our Catamaran brought lunch out for us so and we hung out, ate, and surfed until the sun was setting and our arms were like boiled noodles! Our other boat hung out around our island and, although they had to work around another boat in the area, got fun waves as a good window of glassy conditions opened just as they had the place to themselves! It was a very good day for everyone. I’ll post a couple of picture of Rifles, then today’s Nipusi and Burgerworld sessions. Looking at rising swell tomorrow.
