****AFTERNOON SURF UP DATE****
Hello everyone and thanks for tuning into the baliwaves (’99) for the start of another weekend and the latest on today’s surfing and weather conditions from here on the only place to head for on a surfing holiday, Bali.
Kicking off today with a 6.15AM surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban to find a nice increase in wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. With the early morning high tide Kuta Reef was peeling off some nice lines in the head to well over head classs and the best pick of the Outers. Surfing conditions at the time were clean and glassy with only a slight trace of on shore wind coming out of the NW @ 1-3knot.
But my crew wanted to have a break today so instead we opted for a tour of the southern end of the island. Starting off at Green Bowls to find wave height a solid over head to double head high plus but also by this time the wind had turned more to the SSW and increased to 4-7knot. There were some ok waves coming through but it would have been very testy, especially with the tide already starting to run out. No surfers in the water just a few groups of monkeys hanging out.
From there we set back off towards Uluwatu arriving around 11.00AM to find wave height in the solid over head to double head high plus plus. Around 20 surfers in the water chasing waves on the outside of the Racetrack. After a quick lunch at Surya Cafe we decided on taking a quick look at Balangan. Balangan had maybe 15 surfers in the water with wave height in the head to double head high sector. Wind direction at Ulu and Balangan was on shore out of the SSW.
Tidal info for today had us down for a 1.8mtr High @ 8.00AM and then running out for a 0.6mtr Low around the 2.00PM mark.
Weather wise; Last night around 11.30PM we had our first solid down pour of rain, only lasting around 15mins but definitely signaling the change of seasons. The last couple of days we have also seen a change in wind direction but usually we will get another swing back to the ESE before the season dedicates to the wet. Today here in Bali it was a mainly overcast morning with some sunny patches through the afternoon.
We have also included some more photos from our friends at ESP located down at Bingin in Julies Warung in todays Photo Gallery.
