The Real Kandui Surf Resort Mentawai Islands
Jan 19th surf report
We have been having a great off season for surf. It seems like the Indian Ocean was in the holiday spirit this year, throwing that epic 3 day Bankvaults swell at us around Thanksgiving, another nice swell that we surfed Bankvaults on again around Christmas, and then another swell on New Years day when I didn’t pass on any photos because I couldn’t even get a boat driver to come with me. Just had to surf empty, sizeable Bankvaults for hours to myself! Someone had to do it. Then for good measure, we got that nice Rifles swell a week or so ago that pulled Anthony and his friend Brody over here all the way from America to get some of the off season magic! That was a memorable day. And in between, there have been plenty of moderate swells. We haven’t been looking for surf on anything but the biggest swells, but there has been plenty of waves. We’ve had 4 Bobs though and it’s been consistently putting out fun surf for us, although it’s hard to get work done when you’re always looking over your shoulder at beautiful, empty 4 Bobs peeling away waves all day. After 5 O’clock, it’s a stampede! I took the camera out and snapped a couple pictures of the crew having fun after work the other day. I’ll pass one on. Soga, washing off some of the work day grime. Looks like the Indian Ocean is going to take a little break, but there are a couple small swells on the charts so you never know. 4 Bobs is looking bigger this morning and I’m sure we’ll be out there after work!
