The Real Kandui Surf Resort Mentawai Islands
April 23rd surf report
Our swell has been dying day by day since that epic Saturday, but there has still been plenty of waves. The guys got some fun Hideaways to themselves Sunday morning, and our second boat caught some fun Beng Beng midday, also uncrowded. Photos of both attached. Since then, it’s been a lot of Burgerworld. We surfed it surprisingly by ourselves yesterday, but our luck of uncrowded surf ran out today as a few boats showed and it was busy at times. No worries, we brought the Catamaran with lunch and Bintang so we could take it easy and pick our sessions. Everyone has there eyes on a little series of swells which should start showing a bit by tomorrow. Looks like a good trip!
April 20th surf report
It was a transfer day today, guests leaving and arriving. The charts called for a swell, and they were on the money! We arrived at Bankvaults at dawn and liked what we saw. About a 6 wave, near double overhead set peeling off with only a couple other guys in the water and perfect conditions! We were on it like white on rice. A couple people had to get back to the resort for the guest’s departure, but it was quick trip then we were back in the water. There were only a handful of other surfers in the lineup the entire day as the winds were light and people spread out to surf smaller waves. God bless them! It was barrel city at rush hour all day! We rarely leave good surf, but by 2pm or so we just had nothing left. We watched another smoking set peel through as our boat motored off and we were keen to eat and come right back. Fortunately for our exhausted bodies, the wind came up and the waves blew out by the time we got back. We hung out in case it glassed off. No luck. But, being the savvy surf guides we are, a back up plan of a cooler full of ice cold Bintangs was in place and we spent the rest of the afternoon watching the waves and the sunset and talking about our good fortune. Payday!
