BALI
OAKLEY BALI PRO
19th Hune 2013
Day 2 (well kinda)
Hello surfers and thanks again for calling by your baliwaves (the site that has been bringing you the goods since 1999) for the latest news and some cool views on today’s surfing and weather conditons from here on the only sane choice for your next tropical surfing holiday BALI.
Alright, we were a just a tad confused this morning (nothing to far out of the normal) waiting or hoping to get an sms alert for the running of the Oakley Pro Bali, but nothing came. So the next best thing was to contact Tima Hain who runs all the ISC / ASC media over here, and does a fantastic job I have to say. Getting the news that the contest was already underway at Keramas with perfect waves in the 2-4ft range. (Ketut and I were ready to roll this morning since 5.30AM, I suppose it pays to turn on your computer and check emails first.)
So we were finally on the road in transit to the contest site but the traffic was bedlam to say the least. Finally getting a car park and then walking down to set up the camera at 8.30AM. Stoked the waves were still good and the contest was on. Then less than 30 mins later the contest was placed on hold, bummer. The next call went down at 10.00AM to anounce the contest would be reassed to run or not at 2.30PM this afternoon, in the mean time they would be running the Oakley Surfshop Challenge.

Unfortunately I’m still pretty well burnt out and frazzled from seven hours of shooting in the open sun yesterday and with very limited shade area at Keramas beach, arguably the hottest ASP event location in the World. Ketut and I called it a day and then fought our way back to Tuban through the knarliest traffic I’ve ever seen on the East Coast. It was pretty much stop / go / stop / go all the way from Sanur to the new underpass turn off to Kuta. Once we got through there it was clear sailing to Tuban.
Our afternoon surf check on the Outer Reefs of Tuban was still showing wave height to breaking in the 2-4ft range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. I did see a handful of surfers out on KR, and you wouldn’t read about it but the wind was coming lightly out of the West and on shore on Bali’s West Coast.
Weather wise so far today it’s been a top beach day with loads of blue sky and even now at 3.30PM the outside temperature is a balmy 31 degree’s Celsius. No sign of rain here in Tuban.
Ok friends that’s me for now but if the contest is running tomorrow we’ll be back over there shooting our hearts out for ya’s. So stay tuned right here to the original Bali surf report website.
By the way the photos we load on baliwaves are edited in LOW RESOLUTION which means low quality so I can get them loaded up for one thing. Feel free to copy them but read our disclaimer first and don’t expect a good quality print, all the original full resolution files are on my computer for the asking.
