BALI
25th July 2013
Hi crew and welcome back to the baliwaves.com (delivering the goods since 1999) for the start of another new swell right here on the first choice tropical surfing holiday island of BALI.
We kicked off the day here in Tuban with a 6.15AM surf check on the Outer Reefs. But wave height at the time was still only showing in the 2-3ft range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. Surfing conditions were clean but a little testy with the off shore SE Trade wind already hitting gusts of up to 12-15knot.
So as it shows in today’s 57 strong photo gallery I blasted off (I actually could have posted this many again but the time factor kills me) we were back down at Bali’s premier surfing location, Uluwatu. Arriving at 8.45Am to find our new swell kicking in hard and wave height already pushing the 4-6ft class. The wind was also pretty strong down there but with the cliff’s as a buffer conditions were perfect. By the time the tide hit the top of the high at midday wave height was hitting the 5-8ft sector with bomb sets at Temple’s and on the Main Peak. But crowd wise it did get a little outta hand at one stage with 60 surfers spread from the Peak to the top of the Track and then another 30+ up on Temple’s. I do have to say there was plenty of gutsy tube riding going down at Ulu today.
Driving back home past Padang Padang and Impossible’s the tide was still too full for Padang Padang but there might be something happening down there on this afternoons 0.0mtr Low tide.
Impossible’s did have some 2-4 footers peeling off down the reef and I’d say that wave would only have improved also with less water over the reef.
This mornings G-Land surf report came through at 9.00Am calling in wave height in the head to double head high plus sector (3-5ft+) on Money Tree’s. Strong off shore wind and only 6 surfers in the water at the time. Hopefully we’ll be getting a photo delivery from G-Land in the near future.
So if anyone is interested in going over to the legendary left hand wave, G-LAND of East Java contact me and baliwaves.com will hook ya’s up with a solid 10% discount.
Weather wise it was grey and rainy for the first couple of hours while we were on location. It wasn’t until late morning that the sun started to punch out and it’s been a mainly hot and sunny afternoon since.
Hey and don’t forget the RipCurl Padang Padang Cup (main event) is still on when it’s on with still plenty of waiting period time left on the clock. So hopefully we’ll get the swell and the contest will run. We’ll keep you in the loop with any news of the event.
NB: Petrol price has finally been increased here in Indonesia with a 40% hike so you can expect prices right across the board to follow suit. Being a small island everything we need comes here by truck. I would expect our beloved Bintang beer to be the first to be jacked.
