BALI
9th July 2013
Hi crew and welcome back to your baliwaves.com (since ’99, years and years before the rest) for the latest news and best views on today’s surfing and weather conditions from right here on the only place worthy of your hard earned tropical surfing holiday dollars, BALI.
Ok so this morning at 5.45AM it was still too dark to check the Outer Reefs when I left to grab my guests, but I do know that it was still raining. Earlier in the wee hours I rekon we had some of the heaviest rain fall all year.
Anyway with the wind by this time 6.00AM now coming out of the N-NE we bee lined for Canggu here on Bali’s West Coast. Hoping for a slight increase in wave height and clean surfing conditions. As you can see in today’s photo gallery we were lucky to get exactly that and in the water before the masses arrived. The left hand sand bar had the best waves but with plenty of tide still to fill in the right hander was also starting to take on some nice shape.
The rain did let off for an hour or so before some more big fat black clouds blew in and dumped another load. We were ready to pack up and call it a day by 9.30AM and just as well as by then the numbers had jumped from 20 at first light to at least 90 spread over the 3 different breaks (the river mouth to Echo beach).
Weather wise it’s basically been overcast grey all day with intermitent showers between the very occassional sunny patch. I certainly hope we’re going to be seeing some more blue sky tomorrow. Today’s top temperature reached 28 degree’s Celsius, it was shortly after 9.30AM the SE Tradewind kick in with gusto.
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Legian (actual exchange rates) — 1US$=Rp9,975 — 1AU$=Rp9,100 —
We are also hoping on another small spike in wave height for tomorrow so stay tuned right here with the baliwaves, the original Bali surf report website.
NB: Petrol price has finally been increased here in Indonesia with a 40% hike so you can expect prices right across the board to follow suit. Being a small island everything we need comes here by truck. I would expect our beloved Bintang beer to be the first to be jacked.
