BALI
9th – 10th October 2013
Howdy folks and welcome back to your baliwaves.com (keeping you in touch with Bali since 1999) for the latest news and damn best views on surfing and weather conditions from right here on the best value for hard earned tropical surfing holiday dollar destination of BALI.
Well I tell ya’s it’s all been happening here on the holiday island the last couple of days here with one of the more solid swells of this year belting into Bali. On the 9th it game on, and our first early morning low tide surf check on the Outer Reefs showing the odd set wave closing out from Kuta all the way down to Kuta Reef here in Tuban. The Bay also was filled with white water and Kareng Tengah non stop heaving through some monster right handers.
We tried to find something surfable over on the East Coast seeing as though the direction of this swell was more outta the SW, hoping to find something a little more managable. Our first check was at Keramas, there were 4 surfers in the water but while we were there watching there were getting beat up hard. From there we cruised further North to Cucukan where there was lone surfer in the line up trying to deal with 4-6 foot waves and tonnes of water sweeping down from the point. After that my guests and I had a meeting and decided on BBQ’d seafood and beers at home. Now that never killed anyone !
Yesterday the 10th and it was pretty much the same scenerio here on the West Coast and over on the East Coast. Although on the East side the size had backed off a notch or two. Keramas at 9.00AM had no surfers in the water and still a pretty mean and un forgiving looking 4-5ft++. Maybe it would have impro ved with more tide but we didn’t hang around with the chance of the wind switching back to the ESE. So we settled for Serangan, no surfers in the water and some perfect, but mean, 4-6 footers smoking through. It wasn’t long after hitting the water that the wind actually did swing back to the SE and off shore back over on the West side.
So as it shows in today’s photo gallery I had our man Ketut Pica take the camera equipment for a run down to Padang Padang on the late afternoon falling tide. As it shows it was on, 5-8 footers ledging and sucking up some solid tube rides for those who could. I also saw some photos of Uluwatu’s Outside Corner last night and there were some big waves rolling through and only 4-5 takers out there having a dig.
This morning the 11th and wave height has geared back another notch again but still plenty of swell hitting the Outer Reefs at 3-5ft+ and the tide still running out at the time. We plan on waiting until it starts running back and in and seeing what the wind does before making our next move. So stay tuned right here to the original Bali surf report website.
I’ve also noticed another surf report and photo up date from our friends at Joyo’s G-Land Surf Camp in my in box and I’ll get ya’s a look at those later this afternoon.
