The Kandui Surf Resort, Mentawai Islands

Wow, double bummer! Another bombing swell and the devil winds were howling in the Northern Mentawais. This was a really big swell with all the anticipation that comes with it so this was pretty disappointing. Hopefully, other areas did better and we look forward to seeing photos from around the Indian Ocean because there was a lot of water moving! No worries, this being the best zone for surf in the world, we can always pull a rabbit out of our hat. Photos attached.

Wow, bummer! We pretty much had a perfect Rifles swell roll through. Double overhead waves were peeling flawlessly down the reef. Flawlessly, that is, if it didn’t have 25 MPH sideshore devil winds running through it 3 days in a row! It looked like a Formula One race car speeding down a bumpy road. Pretty ugly, and what a heartbreaker! But if you fall in love with Rifles, you need to get used to that feeling. It’s the most fickle wave on the planet and count yourself lucky if you ever get it good. No worries, it’s always good somewhere around here as these photos will attest.
