BALI
12th – 13th July 2014
Hi surfers and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since 1999) for today’s news and hard to beat views on surfing and weather conditions from here on the “sure thing” tropical surfing holiday destination of Bali.
Today’s photos gallery (43 photos) were shot here on Bali’s West Coast yesterday morning at Canggu. We arrived around 7.30AM to find wave height almost maxing out in the 3-5ft range on all 3 of the main breaks in that area. The right hander in front of the river mouth was a little bit wonky and the set waves even worse. But the Echo beach left and the Sandbar were still producing some solid grinding barrels. We hung out till around 11.30AM and by this time the wind was coming out of the WSW but surfing conditions were still clean enough.
This morning the 13th and our 7.00AM surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban was only showing wave height to be breaking in the 2-3ft class, that’s between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. Surfing conditions were clean and glassy with the wind only light out of the ENE at the time.
Ketut was on his way down to the bukit (hill) end of the island this morning but has phoned through telling he has had to take cover from some torrential rain. Looking to the South from here in Tuban and the sky is just black, no rain in this part of the island as yet.
Weather wise at 8.30AM the mercury is sitting on 26 degree’s Celsius with the Humidity level at 85%. Wind direction is now coming out of the SE at 4-6knot.
Other parts of Indonesia have also been scoring perfect waves and our friends at Joyo’s G-Land Surf Camp and The Kandui Surf Resort have sent us through more images from their locations of G-Land and the Mentawai islands. So stay tuned for those later on today.
HEY if you can send us through some photos and reports from your part of Indonesia we will gladly post them on baliwaves for everyone to check out plus you’ll get a little bit of free promo.
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Seminyak — 1US$ = Rp11,585 –1AU$=Rp10,800 —
Ok friends do stay tuned as we have another solid swell generator heading our way from down in the Indian Ocean and should impact with Bali by Thursday morning. Hopefully if everything holds together we may even see some action at Padang Padang and the running of the 2014 RipCurl Padang Padang Cup, so stay with us.
Travel Tip # 875, Ok look you’ll read on many websites and surf guide books about bringing extra cakes of wax and leg ropes and standard stuff like that. When in actual fact all that “extra” stuff can be found here in any of Bali’s surf shops and usually cheaper than what it costs you at your home surf shop right. So here’s just 5 items that you really need to bring with you.
1. patience
2. good manners
3. friendly smiles
4. respect
5. *common sense
Once apon a time travelling surfers were like a band of brothers, always being friendly and helpful to a fellow surfer. These days I’m seeing more and more zombie surfers around Bali. The type of people that have absolutely no intention of a simple friendly “hello” when passing by. Remember you are an ambassador of your country at all times once you leave it.
I know a guy that wants to sell 25% share of a resort in the Mentawai Islands, directly in front of Lances Left. You can see what the deal is at: http://www.surfersjournal.com/surf_property/kingfisher
