BALI
7th – 8th August 2014
Hi folks and thanks again for cruising by the baliwaves (doing what w do since 1999) for the latest news and best views on surfing and weather conditions from here on the happy little holiday island of Bali and some of the other best surfing destinations in Indonesia as well.
Ok so yesterdays surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban was showing wave height to be still a very consistent 2-4ft between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. I had a close up view as we pushed our boat out through the channel at Airports. The tide was just on the top at the time so Airport left and Kuta Reef were both producing some nice fun sized waves in the chest to just over head high range. There was also no shortage of surfers at Kuta Reef but only a handful on Airport Left. Surfing conditions were clean but with the off shore SE Trade wind already gusting up to 15knot.
BTW today’s photo gallery was shot by Ketut who took the camera equipment for an early morning trip up to Canggu and then to Batu Bolong just to the south of Echo beach.
My fishing buddy and I headed south down to Uluwatu and as we got closer we could see a huge flock of birds circling up high so things were looking good. Uluwatu was pushing through wave height in the 3-5ft+ sector and looking good. We hung around at Ulu until a big school of Bonito Tuna busted up on the surface chomping into the smaller bait fish. Unfortunately we were too far away and out of range, by the time we got close the school of fish had gone down again but a couple of our friends were still hooked up with rods bent.
From there we cruised back down towards Padang Padang and Impossibles and there was plenty of swell hitting Impossibles but nor much on offer at Padang x 2. And not much happening fish wise either. So cruising back to Bingin we spotted a little bit of fish and bird activity on the surface so we shut down the motor and waited. Bingin was also cranking with some solid 3ft backs and around 15 or so surfers on it. While we were waiting Nyoman and I thought we’d try a bit of Jigging and pretty well on our first try we both hooked up to a couple of good sized Golden Trevelly. It wasn’t long and we had 17 of them in the boat and then just for good measure a school busted up right near our boat and with a quick flick of my rod we had another one in the boat.
Weather wise yesterday it was pretty hard core out in the boat with a mainly cloudy sky and the Trade wind gusting past the 20knot mark. But it was well worth the effort and we’ll be BBQ’ing fish tonight.
This morning the 8th and our 6.45AM surf check on the Outer Reefs was still putting wave height in the 2-4ft range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. Surfing conditions were clean and tidy with the Trade wind starting to wind up in strength.
Ketut has called through from down at Uluwatu calling wave height to be pumping through in the 3-5ft+ range with clean off shore wind. Right now he is over looking Bingin and Impossibles finally re installing our new up dated Web Cam router. So hopefully we’ll have this back on line in the very near future.
Weather wise this morning it’s a 50/50 cloud and blue sky start to the day and right now at 9.45AM the temperature is a warm 27 degree’s Celsius, Humidity level is on 75%. Wind direction is out of the East at 10 – 15knot.
