Hi folks and welcome aboard the baliwaves surf report machine (delivering the goods since 1999) for the latest news and hard to beat views on surfing and weather conditions from right here on the No.1 tropical surfing holiday island of Bali, G-land and the Mentawai islands.
Just to run ya’s through the break down on today’s 60 strong photo gallery we have just loaded. The first 20 sick photos were sent to us directly from the ultra long and perfect waves of G-land. Thanks to our team at Joyo’s G-land Surf Camp located right there in the national park of Alas Purwo in East Java. While the other 40 photos were dropped off from our good friends at EGO SURF PHOTOGRAPHY who you can always find down at the perfectly mechanical waves of Bingin Beach right here in Bali.
This morning the 5th of Agustus our 6.45AM surf check on the Outer Reefs just down the road here in Tuban was showing a nice little boost in wave height. With the tide still running out and maybe just a touch too low for Kuta Reef or Airports, but Middle Reef was smoking through some nice waves in the head to double head high range. Surfing conditions were clean and tidy with the wind a light ENE.
There were already a steadily increasing crew in the water on Middle’s at the time.
Our baliwaves team however are down on location at Padang Padang shooting 4-6ft waves as I type. Ketut and Made arrived at 8.30AM to see if the 2014 RipCurl Padang Padang Cup would be running, but as of 5 mins ago 10.45AM (dead low tide) it was still on stand by for a “possible” lunch time start. The boys reckon there are some nice tubes going down so if it’s on or not we’ll still have a sick new Padang Padang photo gallery for ya’s. Ketut also mentioned that Impossibles had some solid 4 footers wrapping down the reef all the way down to Bingin with at least 30+ surfers in the water.
weather wise out there today we’ve got some real nice beach weather happening, blue sky in all directions at this point in time. Temperature wise we have 28 degree’s Celsius, Humidity level is on 84%. Wind direction is coming out of the
East at 5-8 knot.
If you guys and girls haven’t already heard about the serious drama that went down on Lombok last week here’s what happened (in a nut shell). A surfer named Gary Owens brother of the surfing legend Bobby Owens was riding his motor bike home one afternoon when he took a wrong turn. Then suddenly he was confronted by some ugly locals brandishing curved machete’s. Un luckily he stacked his bike trying to avoid them and was belted across the head with something and knocked out. The thieves then robbed him and left him for dead on the side of the road. Luckily a passing driver spotted him and helped him to the nearest medical help. Then with the help of his bro and friends coordinating everything Gary was able to get the heck outta there. This sort of stuff goes on quite a bit on this island so please take extra caution when riding motor bikes on Lombok, especially the south end of the island.
