BALI
15th – 16th August 2014
Hello everyone and welcome to the weekend here on the baliwaves (keeping it real since 1999) for the latest news and best views on surfing and weather conditions from yours and my favorite tropical surfing destination of Bali.
Ok so if you were following my up dates on Twitter yesterday (@baliwaves) you would have known exactly what was going on. Like our early morning surf check on the Outer reefs of Tuban only showing 1-2 footers at 7.00AM. But by the time we got to Balangan there were already 3-4 footers, and further down South at Uluwatu by 10.00AM it was cranking through at 3-5ft.
As it shows in today’s 102 strong photo gallery and where else other than here on the baliwaves are you going to get to see that many high end photos on a daily basis ? We set up camp down at Warung Surya at Uluwatu for the day. We waited for the tide to start pushing back in and I tell ya’s, well you can see for yourselves really, that it was absofknlutely cranking. I only shot around 350 photos with my 1000mm lens but I reckon I could have loaded the whole lot.
While we were at Ulu Ketut was shooting just a little ways down the road at Balangan and he reckoned it was pretty good there off the point and through the middle section. Crowd wise Balangan had around 50+ surfers in the water while Uluwatu was a little busy with 100 surfers from Temple’s down through the Peak to the Racetrack.
Weather wise it was hot and sunny with a strong SE off shore Trade wind for the most of it.
Today the 16th and it’s just coming up to 5.00AM here in Tuban and I’m trying to finish this report off as fast as possible so I can get my fishing gear together for today’s Airport Left / Patra Beach Sport Fishing Tournament. Looks like being a real fun and competitive day coming on with some big schools of GT’s and Bonito in the area yesterday afternoon. If your not doing anything this evening come down to the Patra Beach just near the airport for our presentation and BBQ (and maybe a Bintang Beer or three).
