BALI
4th – 5th January 2015
Hello surfers and welcome back to your baliwaves.com (The original Bali surf report since back in 1999) for the latest news and best views on surfing and weather conditions from right here on the Worlds most popular tropical surfing holiday destination of Bali.
Ok so here’s the photo gallery that Ketut shot over on East Coasts Keramas yesterday. Ketut was on the scene for the early morning run in tide and as it shows wave height was hitting the main break in the 2-4ft range. Surfing conditions were clean with the wind off shore out of the West, but the waves were not lining up like the usually do. Crowd wise there was no shortage of surfers staying in the area with 40+ in the water for the morning session.
I also took a run over to Serangan around 9.00AM to see what was going down. Wave height was in the 2-3ft range and the wind was mainly off shore with an every now and then flutter of WSW. Crowd wise yesterday was the biggest turn up I’d ever seen at Serangan with all car parking spaces full and over flowing there was just about every surf school in attendance also. And I’ve been surfing at Serangan since the barge bringing the landfill limestone from Sumbawa ran a ground there in the late 1990’s.
Weather wise it was nice to see some blue sky after the last week of rain we’ve had. But that wind was still strong and gusty coming mostly out of the West up to 15knot.
Today the 5th and our 6.45AM surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban was showing a slight bump in size with 2-3ft waves breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. Surfing conditions were still pretty well blown out with the wind fresh out of the W-WSW @ 4-7knot.
Weather wise today we’ve got another mostly blue sky with some cloud banks up to the North of Kuta. Temperature wise right now at 10.00AM we have 29 degree’s Celsius and still climbing. Wind direction is comin gout of the W-WSW @ 6-9knot.
Today’s Travel Tip, Cash money in 50’s or 100’s are always going to get you the best rate here in Bali. Beware using the ATM’s as your going to get the lowest exchange rates possible. Yesterday while the Aussie dollar was getting Rp10,050 on the streets of Bali I used my Aussie banks (Commonwealth Bank) ATM and pulled out Rp5,000,000. which on the street would have exchanged for LESS than AU$500.00 but on my statement it ended up costing me AU$528.00 at this banks exchange rate. Cash Rules !!!
Holiday Traffic is also finally starting to settle down thank God, well at least here in Tuban. I also had a pretty good run home from Serangan earlier, now that the Christmas New Years domestic vacationers have mostly returned to the big island of Java.
