BALI
19th – 20th January 2014
Hello everyone and thanks for dropping into the baliwaves.com (The original Bali surf report website since back in 1999) for the latest news and hard to beat views on surfing and weather conditions from here on your favorite tropical surfing holiday location of Bali.
Ok so we had another big day chasing waves again yesterday. We were in fact up and on the wave hunt by 4.40AM heading up the highway West. Everything was going well until we passed through Tabanan around 5.30AM when the rain and wind kicked in and I do mean heavily. We were still hopefull that it would blow past by the time we made it to our destination. This trip had to be the most radical drive I’ve ever had on this main artery route to Java that is full of maniac truck and bus drivers. The heavy rain and force 10 wind didn’t seem to have any effect on the zombie drivers from hell, they just kept their pedals on the metal. Not long out of Tabanan we had to get out of the car and help move a massive fallen tree that had just been blow over and blocking both lanes.
We decided to stop in at Balian first seeing that the wind and rain was still going hard. Balian was totally blown out at this time (6.30AM) and none of the warungs were open for coffee or breakfast. So we did the extra half an hour drive and continued up to Medewi, at least we knew we could get some breakfast there. Medewi was also mushed out but things were looking a little better with coffee and breakfast under our belts. Then within a 15minute window the wind dropped off and the waves glassed off. So we were the first ones in the water for some fun little 2-3 footers with clean and glassy surfing conditions. later we were joined by half a dozen other surfers.
The drive home was much easier in the afternoon sunshine and we even managed to make a quick stop for a couple of quick roadies.
This morning the 21st and our 6.45AM surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban was showing wave height to be breaking in the 2-2ft+ range between Kuta reef and Airport left. Surfing conditions at the time were not that bad with the wind still only light outta the West.
Weather wise out there this morning we did get a few drops of rain here in Tuban but now at 1.30PM we have a mostly hot and steamy afternoon coming on. Temperature wise the mercury is sitting on 31 degree’s Celsius, Wind direction is West South West at 7-10knot
