BALI
6th – 7th January 2015
Hello friends of Bali and thanks for dropping into the baliwaves.com (Bali’s original surf report website since back in 1999) for the latest news and best views on surfing and weather conditions here on your favorite tropical surfing holiday destination called Bali.
Alright boys and girls here we go again with another 40+ fresh photos we shot yesterday over on Bali’s East side. Always trying to dodge crowds when ever we can we bee lined it straight to Keramas arriving around 8.30AM as the tide was still running in (most of the resort surfers usually wait until the tide peaks before heading out I’ve noticed of late). So things were looking ok with 2-3ft+ of swell hitting th Main break and Car Parks with the wind still off shore with just a touch of cross in it. Crowd wise we were on the money with only 5 in at Car Parks and 10 on the Main break.
But as I mentioned as soon as the tide peaked the surfers started to flow out of the resort but still for Keramas this day and age the numbers were still pretty good at 20+. Shortly after the tide did peak the wind started to rapidly swing more to the South and on shore by 12 noon.
Weather wise it was a combo of cloud and sunshine over on the East Coast of Bali yesterday but bloody hot standing on the black sand beach.
This morning the 7th and our 6.45AM surf check on the Outer reefs here in Tuban was showing wave height to have backed off into the 1-2ft range between Kuta reef and Airport Left. Our baliwaves free to view webcam is also reflecting smaller waves breaking down on Impossibles today. One thing that hasn’t changed is the fresh Westerly wind that is again blowing. So best bet for waves will probably be down on the South Eastern end of the island.
Weather wise this morning we did have some early rain but now at 8.30AM we are back to blue sky here in Tuban. I can see some solid cloud banks further down to the Southern end of the island though and I’m sure we will see more patches of cloud beofe the day is done.
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Tuban — 1US$=Rp12,450 — 1AU$=Rp10,050
This weeks Travel Tip, Cash money in 50’s or 100’s are always going to get you the best rate here in Bali. Beware using the ATM’s as your going to get the lowest exchange rates possible. Yesterday while the Aussie dollar was getting Rp10,050 on the streets of Bali I used my Aussie banks (Commonwealth Bank) ATM and pulled out Rp5,000,000. which on the street would have exchanged for LESS than AU$500.00 but on my statement it ended up costing me AU$528.00 at this banks exchange rate. That’s a nice dinner and cold beers right there, Cash Rules !!!
Holiday Traffic is also finally starting to settle down thank God, well at least here in Tuban. I also had a pretty good run home from Serangan earlier, now that the Christmas New Years domestic vacationers have mostly returned to the big island of Java.
