BALI
2nd – 3rd May 2015
Hi folks and thanks for taking the time out to stop by the baliwaves (doing our best to provide the motivation for your next surf trip to Bali since back in 1999) for our latest news and best views on surfing and weather conditions from here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination called Bali.
Ok today’s 70 strong photo gallery is a combination from yesterday the 2nd and today the 3rd with the first half featuring Balangan here on the West Coast and “Secrets” over on the East Coast yesterday the 2nd.
Yesterday the 2nd and we decided to head over to the East Coast to see what was happening, hoping to find some swell and not too many surfers. Which is getting harder and harder over on the East Coast these days. But we lucked out with our very first stop delivering everything we wanted. Starting with chest to well over head high waves, off shore wind and no other surfers in sight. It wasn’t until and hour and forty five minutes later that 3 other surfers turned up and joining in on the fun.
Today the 3rd and my first surf check on the Outer reefs here in Tuban went down at 6.45AM. And it was looking pretty good at the time with 2-4ft+ waves breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. With the tide on the rise Kuta Reef was looking the goods with some long and clean walls peeling off. But there was plenty of surfer traffick already on it and more reef taxi’s heading out there as I was watching.
So instead we headed down to the bukit for a surf check at Balangan. Arriving around 8.30AM to find some good size with chest to well over head high waves and only maybe 20 surfers spread through the line up. Surfing conditions were clean and tidy with the wind light out of the NNE. As the morning rolled on the late risers started to roll in but surfing conditions only got better when the wind shifted to the ESE around 10.30AM. We hung out till the tide was almost on the bottom of the low and the waves were only getting better and better, but shallower and shallower.
Weather wise it was a beauty with a mostly hot and sunny day and the midday temperature easily busting into the low 30’s on the Celsius scale.
Today we also have a Full Moon rising and we will be seeing some solid tidal differences over the next few days, and fingers crossed no shortage of swell.
Special hello to Alex / Anna and Mike, I have to say Balangan today was almost zombie free.
