Halfway Kuta Boardriders Challenge 2015
Hello everyone and thanks for taking the time out to drop into the baliwaves (keeping you excited about your next Indo surfing holiday since back in 1999) for our latest news and the best possible views on surfing and weather conditions from right here on the unquestionable No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination of Bali.
Ok so yesterday the 11th of Oct we had Ketut spend the day up at Halfway Kuta Beach for the annual Halfway Kuta Boardriders Challenge 2015 sponsored by Hurley Indonesia and friends. Unfortunately yesterday wave height had dropped off some and only leaving 1-3ft waves up along Kuta / Legian stretch of beach breaks. Even though the waves were small there was that usual Halfway Kuta high quality happening with some clean and tidy left and right hand breaks on offer for the big turn out. Hopefully we’ll be receiving a press release on the event soon. Congrats to the Halfway Boardriders Club for putting on another great and successful surfing contest here in Bali. Congrats to Darmaputra Tonjo for being the best surfer on the day and Made Raditya Rondi as runner up
While all this was going down Slim was out in his 8mtr traditional double outrigger Balinese fishing boat chasing Spanish Mackerel and friends. I covered a lot of ground yesterday from here in Tuban I traveled South past Uluwatu and around to the East Coast near Green Bowls, then back to Uluwatu and North West to Canggu. Even though I only bagged one Barracuda it was still great to be out in the water. The hard thing was that there were fish everywhere but it just wasn’t my day, maybe tomorrow cause “that’s fishing”.
Weather wise yesterday it was pretty dang hot out there in my open boat (9 hours) mostly sunny with the relief of a cloud or two mid morning.
Today the 12th and wave height has improved a little this morning. Our 6.45AM surf check on the Outer Reefs of Tuban was showing 2-4ft waves breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. Surfing conditions were good as gold with the wind already light off shore out of the East.
Today also saw the final of the RipCurl Grom search here in Indonesia going down at Canggu. Ketut spent most of the morning up there shooting the action for us. Wave height up at Canggu was also in the 2-4ft class on the right hand river mouth and the finalists were lucky to score some perfect waves for this even. We’ll get these photos up on line for you guys and gals asap, maybe 45mins or so ok.
Weather wise today here in Bali it’s been a hot and sunny Monday, pretty much the norm for all year round here on the holiday island. Temperature wise right now at 3.00PM the mercury is sitting on 30 degree’s Celsius, Humidity is at 66% (feels higher). Wind direction is SE at 11 – 17knot.
Ok friends have a good one and stay tuned right here to the original Bali surf report website, by surfers for surfers.
