BALI / INDONESIA
1st – 2nd January 2016
Hello surfers and thanks again for joining us here at the baliwaves (Bali’s original surf report website since back in 1999) for the start of yet another year and our latest news and the best possible views on surfing and weather conditions from right here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination of Bali.
Ok crew we have been pretty busy the last few days covering a lot of miles and surfing locations making sure that our crew gets the most out of their precious time here in Bali. The bulk of today’s photo gallery was shot right on the end of 2015 here on Bali’s West Coast. And as you can clearly see it was pumping.
For the 1st of January we were up early and road tripping up the West Coast of Bali to Medewi and her long long left hand waves. I have thrown a couple of line up shots in today’s gallery just to give you an idea. There were only 7 us in the water with head to over head high waves peeling off for 200mtrs. It’s a long and hard drive up the coast to this place so you really have to know when to go to score it good.
Today the 2nd and our 6.30AM surf check on the Outer Reefs of Tuban was showing wave height in the 1-2ft range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. The tide was still running out at the time and the wind light out of the ENE.
So we decided to take a run down to the Southern end of the island with our first stop at Balangan. At 8.45AM there were no surfers in the water with wave height in the 1-2ft+ range. By this time the wind had swung around to the NW and the tide was just starting to run in.
From there we headed down to Uluwatu knowing we would find a little bit more size and power. Wave height at Ulu was also pretty small with only 2-2ft+ high set waves and the wind also light on shore out of the NW. Crowd wise it was pretty good through until late morning when the numbers started arriving. The wind did eventually swing right around to the SSE by early afternoon.
Weather wise today it’s been just another hot and sunny day here in the tropics.
Ok everyone tomorrows another day and you know we are going to be back out there on the wave hunt. So stay tuned right here to the baliwaves and make sure you keep an eye on our social media for earlier reports photos and updates through each day.
