12th February 2016
Hi peeps and a big thanks for stopping by the baliwaves (Bali’s leading daily surf report website since back in 1999) for our latest news and the best possible views on surfing and weather conditions from right here on the only sane choice for your next tropical surfing holiday, Bali.
Alright so here’s a quick 20+ photo gallery that we collected on our travels yesterday here in Bali. We started off on the East Coast and was heading to “Secrets” and everything was looking good until we got close enough to see all the cars parked there and surfers checking it out. But, I guess Secrets has never been much of a secret location anyway, ever since I first surfed there 20 years ago. So from there we headed up to another lesser know location only to find a full car park and lots of surfers in and out of the water. The reason for all the attention on the East Coast right now is because around this time of the year very year, is our friends from Japan peak Bali holiday season. So we jumped back into the car and headed way down to the Southern end of the island to the non secret location of Balangan.
Surfing conditions at Balangan were clean and tidy with the wind light and variable. Wave height was in the 2-4ft class and there was maybe 25 surfers in the water scattered from the point to down the beach.
Weather wise it was a mostly overcast type of day with a warm and humid midday temeprature in the low 30’s on the Celsius scale.
Today the 12th and this mornings 6.45AM surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban wasn’t looking real crash hot. Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left was only lapping onto the reef in the 1-2ft class and the wind fresh on shore out of the NW.
So we eventually decided on heading over to Serangan on the East Coast for a surf check. Wave height was a fun looking 2-4ft and surfing conditions were clean enough with the wind blowing cross off shore out of the NE by the this time. We were just about convinced to get out there into the waves just as the surf school hordes started arriving and I’m talking big big numbers so we jumped back in the car and headed South again, down to Bali’s premier surfing location of Uluwatu.
Uluwatu was looking real good with wave height on the sets pushing 5ft and only maybe 20 surfers spread from the Peak down to the top of the Track. The tide was filling in fast by this time so my crew was pretty happy. But within the next hour the wind started to freshen out of the West before turning to the WSW with gusts up to 20knots. It wasn’t long after this, around 2.00PM the a massive storm blew in and commenced to drop buckets of rain.
Ok so I’ve also got another batch of water photography photos from our friend Lucas to load up for you plus a bit of a yarn from our baliwaves resident Indo adventurer Colin. So stay tuned to the original Bali surf report website cause there’s always something new to view. I actually did a short but live video stream from Uluwatu just before the storm blew in us so follow the link in our twitter feed to Periscope and take a look. have a good one and catch ya’s over the weekend ok.
Just saying dept, This is Bali right and tourists have been coming here surfing and sight seeing for quite a long time now, there are over 600,000,000. websites on the place and I don’t know how many guide books and articles written on Bali. Bali needs tourism to keep going now, that’s what we surfers created all those years ago. So don’t go getting your balls in a knot if we mention a surfing location that is already well and truelly documented. The locals there also need our tourism dollars to survive. Try to think outside of the me me me mentality and think of the locals that might earn in a month what you earn in a few hours, just saying ok. (@mattytrain)
