BALI / INDONESIA
5th – 6th February 2016
Hello surfers and thanks again for dropping into the baliwaves (keeping you dreaming of surfing in Indonesia since back in 1999) for our latest news and the best possible views on surfing and weather conditions from the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination of Bali.
Ok just to get the show on the road here’s a solid photo gallery that was shot from water level over on Bali’s East Coast, Krupuk Pt and North West Goldy. I was lucky to bump into the surfer / photographer who shot them, Lucas Palma when I was over there the day before. So lucky for us Lucas is a fan of the baliwaves and offered to send us some of his photos that he shot yesterday afternoon. As it shows wave height was in the 2-3ft range again with the clean and glassy surfing conditions we had yesterday afternoon. Check out more of Lucas’s photos at http://skids.com.br or follow him on Instagram http://www.instagram.com/_skids_/
Weather wise it wasn’t too bad yesterday here where we are located, no rain with a mostly light over cast sky. When the sun did bust through it certainly pushed the temp(o) with our midday temperature easily in the low to mid 30’s on the Celsius scale.
This morning the 6th and Ketut and I were up along Kuta Beach for the first beach clean up of the 2016 wet season series. Not a bad turn up either for a sultry Saturday morning with around 30+ volunteers turning up in our group. I was the only foreigner who turned up in our crew. We managed to strip the beach of all rubbish for a good 400yrds within the hour. An exceptional effort and a big thank you to everyone who turned up and helped in playing a small part in keeping our beaches beautiful. Another big thanks to Coca Cola Indonesia and Quiksilver Indonesia / Mr Gino Andrias for organizing and keeping this program running. BTW by far the worst rubbish on the beach today was plastic drinking cups and plastic straws. I did not not pick up one plastic bag off the beach, well no shopping size plastic bags anyway. So all the hype on banning plastic bags is not really the issue. The problem is in food and drink packaging and there is no way that’s going to be changing. Tune into Periscope to check out the live streaming video I took from this mornings Kuta Beach Clean Up.
From there I had to drop some friends over at Sanur so they could get the public fairy across to Nusa Lembongan, so I got a quick look at the famous right hand waves of Sanur reef for a minute. Sanur usually needsome swell on her reef to deliver it’s Kirra (old Kirra) like barrels, but this morning it was only showing in the waist high range.
While I was on the East Coast Ketut took a ride up to Canggu beach here on Bali’s West Coast to see if he could snap a few photos. Ketut has called through saying there are some 3 footers (up to head high) breaking on the right hander and sand bar sections this morning. Surfing conditions at first were clean and semi glassy before the wind shifted more to the West. He also mentioned there was no shortage of zombies in the area. So don’t be a zombie, say hello or hi when you see another surfer, it’s that easy, good vibes and better than having your head stuck up your backside right.
Weather wise it was another warm and steamy morning here in the tropics, we have a mainly overcast sky with some patches of sun shine and also there’s been a few drops of rain. Right now at 11.30AM the temperature is a warm 32 degree’s Celsius, Humidity is at 73% and the wind outta the West at 6-8knot.
