BALI / INDONESIA
31st January – 1st / 2nd February 2016
Hello surfers and thanks again for stopping by the baliwaves (bringin you a little bit of Bali since back in 1999) for our latrest news and the best possible views on surfing and weather conditions from here on the only sane choice for your next tropical surfing holiday, Bali.
Ok so here’s 45 new photos that we have shot here in Bali over the last 2 days. The first half of the gallery feature the A frame waves of Balian here on Bali’s West Coast, and then the last half from over at Keramas beach on Bali’s East Coast.
Like I mentioned in our last up date with all the hype on “shark sightings” at Balian beach we sure as hell didn’t see any while we were up there on the 31st of Jan and the waves were just as good as always. Speaking of sharks well as a surfer we know that if you go into the ocean there’s always a chance of seeing one. But of all the times I’ve surfed up Bali’s West Coast I’ve never seen one. But as a fishermen I have seen quite a few big ones all around Bali’s surrounding ocean. But lucky for the holidaying surfers here in Bali the apex predators of the ocean still have their natural and first preference food, fish in abundance. So if you want to be a surfer then get out there and go surfing.
Yesterday the 1st of Feb we hung out at home taking it easy until the tide started to turn and push back in before heading over to Keramas on Bali’s East Coast. On paper everything was looking good with the wind here on Bali’s West Coast blowing NW – W. But over on the East Coast at Keramas it was cross on shore as well, different wind direction on the two different coast lines is not that un usual I guess. Anyway as it shows in the photos there were a few clean faced waves in the waist to head high range with the crowd peaking around 22 surfers. Another thing I noticed along the high tide line in front of the waves and probably right along the whole shoreline in the area. Was small puddle’s of thick oil like tar. It’s not the first time I’ve seen it over the years, once I stepped in some and couldn’t get it off so imagine what happens to the animals / birds in the water and shoreline that come in contact with this crap. More than likely the source would be one of the many boats that run backwards and forwards to Bali. I have loaded a photo of the black sticky gunk into this photo gallery.
Weather wise it was a hot and steamy day over on the East Coast with some sunny patches in the mostly over cast sky. Then around 8.30PM last night the heavens opened up for some solid rain fall that lasted right through until this morning.
Today the 2nd of Feb and with the chance of more rain and small waves with strong WSW wind we called a lay day. But hopefully tomorrow we will be back out on the wave hunt to see what we can find. So tune in again tomorrow to the one and only original baliwaves.
