The Padma Challenge presented by The Australian Consulate General Bali, Quiksilver Indonesia and Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia has been added to the ASC Calendar.
LEGIAN, Bali, Indonesia (Thursday, July 14, 2016) – One of Bali’s most famous and consistent beach breaks is set to join the Asian Surf Championship calendar in 2016. The Australian Consulate Bali Padma Challenge will run on the 30th July on the left and right beach breaks of Legian Beach.
Following on from a successful Padma Challenge in 2014, the event will once again be a part of the annual Bali’s Big Eco Weekend celebrations. The Padma Challenge aims to raise awareness about the importance of keeping Bali’s beaches clean and safe as well as giving Indonesia’s aspiring surfers an opportunity to gain valuable points towards becoming ASC Champion.
The Australian Consulate-General is pleased to sponsor the Padma Challenge to encourage local surfers to become involved in competitive surfing. Consul-General Helena Studdert said, “Australians have a warm and enduring relationship with Bali, representing a quarter of all tourists to the Island. Bali and Australia are also both world-class surfing destinations. By holding events like this, in partnership with Quiksilver and Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia, we hope to further build connections between our two surfing communities and to help grow the capacity of surfing as a sport in Indonesia”. The Consulate-General is “proud to support Big Bali Eco Weekend as a way of encouraging sustainable environmental practices in Bali,” she said.
“Quiksilver Indonesia is happy to partner with The Australian Consulate General, Bali and Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia in continuing to develop the Indonesian surfing event calendar with the ASC to provide a framework for Indonesia’s best surfers to maximize their potential,” said Paul Hutson, CEO of PT Quiksilver Indonesia.
“As a great supporter of Indonesian surfing, Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia (CCAI) is proud to support the Padma Challenge which will enable Indonesian talents to learn and compete at a national level with a view to step up on to the international stage,” said Bruce Waterfield, Business Service Director of Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia. “It is a fitting platform for us to promote active healthy living while also encouraging everybody to keep the beautiful island of Bali clean by participating in our Bali Beach Clean Up program.”
Through the Bali Beach Clean Up program (BBCU), CCAI and Quiksilver clean up 9,7 km of shoreline everyday throughout Bali’s 5 iconic beaches: Kuta beach, Legian beach, Seminyak beach, Jimbaran beach, and Kedonganan beach. Since 2007 BBCU has collected more than 30 million kilograms of rubbish to minimize the impact of waste on the beautiful beaches of Bali, strengthen the tourism industry which will contribute to the welfare of the local people, and support the Bali Government’s program of creating a ‘Clean and Green’ Bali.
The event is now open for entries via asiansurfingtour.com and is expected to attract at least a field of 64 men’s and 16 women’s competitors ranging from local Padma Boardriders, an exciting mix of experienced and up-and-coming Indonesian surfers as well as surfers from all over the Asia region who are wanting a chance to earn ASC points and surf Bali’s great beach breaks without a crowd.
The highest ranked Indonesian surfer of the men’s and women’s open division will receive Virgin Airline flights to Australia’s Gold Coast with VIP passes to attend the Quiksilver Pro in 2017, as well as a surf training session at the Surfing Australia High Performance Training Centre in Casuarina… a once in a lifetime experience supported by the Australian Consul General, Bali.
Quiksilver Indonesia, Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia and The Australian Consulate Bali, would like to thank the supporters of this event – The ASC Team, The Padma Boys Boardriders Club, Padma Hotel and Virgin Airlines.
