BALI / INDONESIA
20th -21st September 2016
Hello Bali freaks and thanks for dropping into the baliwaves (keeping you in the loop with surfing destinations all over Bali and Indonesia since back in 1999) for our latest injection of news and views from here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination, Bali.
Ok so yesterday the 20th we didn’t get our last remaining camera body back from being serviced until 4pm and by that time it was just too late to go and shoot what waves were available here on the West side with a strong off shore ESE – SE Trade wind blowing. I think I did give a heads up via our Twitter feed on baliwaves.
But this morning the 21st and we were raring to roll and go get some waves, out on the highway by 5.05AM heading West up to Rocky Pt as some of the local surfers up there have christened it. There certainly is no shortage of rocks on the lower end of the tide either. But that always help keeps the learners from going out until the tide pretty well fills in. So it was just my friend John and I taking turns wave for wave for the first 2 hrs of our 3 hr session. I don’t know who was more stoked my mate or me. Me I thinks, as it’s been 3 months and a couple of operations since my last surf here in Bali. I was worried if I could still stand up or not, but I guess it’s like riding a bike if you have been surfing long enough, so stoked to be back in the water surfing with our friends from baliwaves.
When we pulled up on location this morning wave height was only in the 1-2ft class but as soon as the tide started to run in just a bit we had 2-4 footers peeling off to ourselves, magic. The wind was blowing cross shore but the wave faces were clean as. By the time we were surfed out this morning it was good to come in and chill out while watching the mid aged learners getting pushed into waves and crashing into each other.
Weather wise it was sunburn hot here on the West side, tomorrow I will be wearing a long sleeve rashy instead om my useless short sleeve model that leaves your arms to get toasted.
