Hi folks and thanks for dropping into the balwiaves (the original Bali surf report website since back in 1999) for our latest news and the best possible views from out and about on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination, Bali.
Alright then friends here’s a collection of photos that we shot on the 17th and yesterday the 18th. On the 17th we were at Canggu, even though we tried to get their just on sun up there was no escaping the crowd at this place. Wave height at first was in the 2-3ft class but as the tide filled in there were soon over head set waves. Surfing conditions were nice and clean through until 10.30AM.
Yesterday the 18th and we were up and on the road long before the sparrows on our way up the West Coast highway to Jembrana. With not much swell showing on the charts it was a bit of a gamble but in the end paying nice dividends for the crew. It was low tide when we pulled in after the 2hr drive and pretty happy to see well over head set waves peeling off with only a handful of surfers in the water. Surfing conditions were clean and tidy with a light off shore wind that lasted until 9.00AM when the SE Tradewind kicked in blowing hard cross shore. But the waves were still pretty clean on the face and still peeling off. The worst part about surfing at Medewi is the number of sea urchin spines I’ve had in my feet from there. Today I have a very sore foot and a very big and thick “bulu babi” spine in my right foot.. oooouch !!!
I also have to say thank you to the friendly staff and Balinese owners of the ever popular and spacious MEDEWI BEACH COTTAGES, make sure you check them out next time you head up there and support the local Balinese community. You can’t miss this place as it was the first resort in the area and is the closest place to the waves with a killer view.
Weather wise it was hot, hot, hot as you would expect winter time in the tropics to be.
Today the 19th and with bugger all swell showing anywhere we wandered back down to the extreme southern end of the island to Bali’s premier surfing location of Uluwatu. Wave height was nothing special with only 1-3 footers breaking from Temple’s to the Main Peak. while the tide was running out. And as one would imagine in the small waves there was no shortage of surfers in the water. But at least as the tide started to run back in the waves did get a lot more consistent. I did get to shoot some photos and will run a few in tomorrows surf report with tomorrows photos, so stay tuned.
Weather wise no rain in sight, just blue sky and sweet sun shine.

Swell out look for tomorrow is showing a slow and steady up grade through tomorrow and again on Sunday with some solid swell booked in for Monday. Maybe not enough for a Padang Padang session but lets keep our fingers crossed hey.
