BALI / INDONESIA
13th – 14th July 2017
Hi folks and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves (keeping you in the loop with Bali since back in 1999) for our latest news views and the best possible photos from right here on your first choice tropical surfing holiday destination, Bali.
Ok peeps so we have been out on the road chasing waves and looking for less crowds in the water again. Yesterday the 13th we took a run up West Coast highway to Medewi. Leaving from down here in Kuta you need to be up early to try and partly avoid the traffic that is on route to the ferry terminal at Gilamanuk on Bali. Bali being the small island it is everything we have pretty much comes in by truck from the big island of Java. So as you can imagine this highway (if you can call it a highway) gets incredibly busy with trucks and buses all trying to keep a hectic schedule.
But anyway it’s no big deal for me, I’ve been making the run up there for the last 20+ years. We were not let down, arriving to find some playful 1-3 foot waves (waist to head high) with clean and glassy surfing conditions. Just what my 2 friends were looking for. There was 1 surfer already in the water at 7.15AM and there was no real crowd in the water until the tide had filled in and we were ready to roll back home. a delicous Indonesian meal at the Medewi Beach Cottages located right in front of the waves.
Weather wise as it shows in the photos was mainly overcast through until late morning when the sun finally made an appearance. Even though it was still board shorts and bikini’s for most of us.
Today the 14th and my 6.45AM surf check on the Outer Reefs of Tuban was only just showing wave height in the 1-2ft class between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. The tide was just hitting the bottom of the Low and surfing conditions were clean with a fresh off shore ESE wind already getting into it.
So with a lack of swell down this end of the island the boys and I decided on heading down South the Bali’s swell magnet location of Uluwatu. Driving past Padang Padang and Impossible’s it was worrying to only see 1-2ft waves but on arrival Ulu never let us down with wave height in the 2-4ft range. Surfing conditions were clean tidy from Temple’s right through to the Track. Numbers wise it was also looking good with only around 30 surfers in the water at 8.45AM. That did change of course as the tide filled in and the clock ticked on, by 10.00AM there would have been 80 surfers in total.
Weather wise today it’s been a beauty with loads of blue sky and sun shine. Right now at 4.15PM the temperature is still a warm 28 degree’s Celsius, Humidity is at 78%. Wind direction is no coming out of the SE at 20knot+
Ok friends stay tuned cause I’ve got more photos from Uluwatu today to get through. Plus a new G-Land and NIas surf reports to load up here on Bali’s original surf report website.
