Damai Bungalows, South Sumatra
2nd September 2017
” Hi all from Tanjung Setia, Lampung Sumatra…… Been a busy last month or so with nearly every electric appliance i own either being lost or just going cactus, along with a lost passport there’s been far too many trips back to the city to organise replacements, but all done now and the team here at Damai have continued to look after the punters in my absence…. well done team
Weather wise up here it’s been hot, sunny with consistent trades for ages, which means offshore all day and a nice cooling breeze of an evening, we’ve had the occasional afternoon storm but not enough to upset things, more a nice cool off when they have come…..as expected after the last wet season’s relentless wind and rain this dry season is here and not expected to change anytime soon, feels we’ve moved back to weather patterns from a couple of seasons ago, which is great as that’s why we’re here, long offshore “on” season conditions
Surf wise we’ve pretty much had it all going on, ranging from big swells that have our sheltered spots firing, medium swells that open up the entire coastline down to the current lull in swell that has Dedi our surf guide getting the punters onto the wave magnets. That last swell we had was a great west direction and a good size too, some thumping sessions down at The Bu provided plenty of barrel time. The point out the front of us nearly always has a wave and has continued to shine with the all day offshore trades blowing, sitting right in front allows our punters the advantage of being able to sit and watch and hit it at the right time, avoiding the peak times to get sessions with few in the water. Overall the past month or so has been consistent and quality waves around for those that know the when and where’s of this area. You can spend a lot of time searching yourself for waves or rely on places ( like ours ) that have a resident surf guide to make the calls each day to get you into waves suited to your ability, local knowledge is everything up here and we’ve got you covered in that department.
It’s been a different kind of season up here punter wise, the traditional Aussie onslaught for winter hasn’t had the same impact this year for one reason or another, but we’ve been kept busy with punters from all over the globe, New Zealand, English, French, Hawaiian, Spanish, German, Japanese, South African to name just a few….. we welcome punters from all over and thank them for coming to stay
The back end of this season looks to be a little light on numbers wise, if you’re thinking of a late season run up this way for a trip make sure you hit Slim up for a referral which equals savings for you, we still have spots left till end November so if it’s lower numbers in the water, “generally” small to medium size waves ( don’t generally get the big macking swells ) the team is here ready to host you, feed you and get you into some cracking waves…..Just make sure you hit Slim up to save you some cabbage!!!!
That’ll wrap up this report guys, thanks for reading, as i said before all the computer and phone shit has been dealt with so i’ll be back weekly with reports via Baliwaves to keep ya’s all up to speed, with a heap of photo’s of coarse…..Thanks as always Slim for the opportunity
Keep well, travel safe and get shacked…… Jungle Jas…… ”
