BALI / INDONESIA
5th – 6th November 2017
Hi folks and welcome back to the baliwaves (keeping you in the loop with Bali’s surfing scene since way back before the rest) for the start of another surfing week and our latest news and best possible views on surfing and weather conditions from right here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination, Bali.
My Agung up-date, funny how all the doomsday predictors have just disappeared of the Richter scale, just like that. Nothing to report.
Anyway sorry I was a bit sun frazzled out yesterday after surfing and just couldn’t drag myself to sit in front on this confounded computer. But I’ll tell ya wave height had backed off quite a bit over on Bali’s East Coast. Wave Surfing conditions how ever were perfectly clean and there still was some head high waves, all be it lacking in power. Well for us big older dudes anyway, not for the young gun Bali surfers as it shows in our photo gallery. The top grommets from RipCurl and local Rangen surfers were still tearing it to pieces.
Weather wise it was a little overcast through the early session but still hot and sultry out in the water. Late afternoon saw a nasty thunder and lightning storm that rolled in out of the Northern quadrant. This storm turned nasty and ended up claiming the life of a Belgium tourist learning to surf up at Batu Bolong beach up near Canggu from a direct hit lightning strike. I thought everyone knew not to be in the water or under tree’s or out anywhere for that matter in a lightning storm. Tragic loss of life and we are very sad to have to report this.
Today the 6th of November and we decided on heading up to Canggu for a look see, knowing that it was going to be pretty small anyway. But I have to say there were some very fun sized waist to slightly over head sized waves hitting all 3 of the main sections from Echo beach to Pererenan. Ketut smashed off a tonne of photos again today so I’ll get some of those up for ya’s asap ok.
Weather wise it was pretty much the same as yesterday and now at 4.00PM there is more dark clouds rolling in but not like yesterdays killer storm. Right now the temp is on 30 Celsius, Humidity is at 72%. Hardly a breath of wind right now.
