BALI / INDONEISA
27th – 28th May 2018
Hi folks and welcome back to the balwiaves (the original Bali surf report since back in 1999) for another check on surfing and weather conditions right here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
Ok so yesterday morning we knew there was going to be a lot of water moving and for us average type surfers not too many options for surfing. But with Kuta Reef pretty much right on our door step we couldn’t go wrong. Our first surf check was showing wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left in the 3-6ft+ class. Airports was shutting down right across the channel. Middle Reef had double to triple head high plus waves and bigger freak sets marching through with 8 waves in one set I counted. While Kuta Reef was almost maxing out with double head high plus set waves. I was only in the line up for 5 minutes before I got cleaned up from sitting to far over and too far in side, not a good way to start your session hahaha. But there was some nice rides going down and very consistent for the 2.5hrs we were in the water. Crowd wise as expected it was hectic with the limited locations on offer.
It was all happening yesterday with the Carona Bali Protected WSL Pro surfing contest running their first round over at Keramas and were lucky to score some great conditions to kick off the event. We will be trying to get over there this morning and shoot a few photos.
There was also plenty of action down on the bukit with the afternoon low tide at Uluwatu delivering some big walls and a few guest appearances from some of the Pro’s. Also down at Padang Padang I do believe RipCurl were running some trials for the lcal boys to get a wild card into this years Padang Padang Cup.
Alright so there’s still plenty of swell happening this morning the 28th and we’ll be out there doing our best to cover as much of it as we can. So stay tuned for more news and photos through our Twitter and Instagram feeds.
The next tide today will be a 2.4mtr High @ 9.13AM
