BALI / Indonesia
15th -16th June 2018
Hi folks and thanks for dropping into the baliwaves (keeping Bali surf reports real since back in 1999) for our Sunday Session on the latest news and the best possible views on surfing and weather conditions from right here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
Ok so it’s been a pretty big end of week for us here at the waves, non stop surf all over the island so we have been putting in the time and the K’s to get the best photos possible for ya’s. Today’s mammoth 100 strong photo gallery was captured over on the East coast last Friday morning at Keramas. With everything else that’s been going on it’s taken me until now to get them all edited. It was a tough selection just choosing 100 out of 1100 photos with so much high voltage, rail grabbing, barrel dogging action in the water. But anyway I hope you like what we have loaded.
Wave height was in the 3-5ft class with some bigger 6 footers from time to time with early morning clean as it gets surfing conditions. It wasn'[t until around 10.45AM that the ESE Trade wind started to kick in and take the shine off the waves. Crowd wise though it looked real tough with around 30+ surfers all chasing it. Stand out local performers had to be Rio Waida, Made Raditya, Betet Merta, Mega Artana and part time Bali teenager Ben Benson while we were on the scene anyway.
We’d also like to thanks the WSL and Corona for leaving us the Northern end camera tower (Gordo’s) to shoot from and get these photos.
Weather wise on Friday morning there was some early morning cloud hanging around before the Tradey kicked in and cleaned it up.
I’ve been saying it for a long time now, the sand erosion that has taken place on the beach just North of the resort in the last 4-5 years is seriously bad. Early attempts to persuade the river to change it’s course resulted in thousands of tonnes of sand being eaten off the beach and now the adjacent land is soon going to be chewed into on big moon tide and swells. We have been visiting Keramas beach for a long time before there was any sign of developers and no one messing with the river (that actually craved this wave over thousands of years) and there was so much sand on the beach well up above the high tide lines, and 15ft high, now there is no sand buffer. Most of us long timers here in Bali have seen what happens when that oh so now expensive land starts to get eroded. The land owners start building sea walls to save it, how long will it be before we see this happening, the damage has been done.
Yesterday the 16th and Ketut had the camera equipment here along Bali’s West Coast at Canggu. Ketut was calling average waves (Ketut’s call) in the 2-4ft+ sector with a light off shore wind for the morning session. I haven’t even had a chance to have a look at the 400 or so photos he shot but that’ll be my after lunch chore today.
Weather wise yesty we did get a few drops of over night and early morning rain before clearing away for another hot and sunny day here on the holiday island of Bali.
This morning Sunday the 17th and Ketut is back out there again with the camera gear, trying to keep me chained to this editing chair. Today we sent the lad down to Indonesia’s premier surfing location of Uluwatu to catch the tail end of this mornings low tide. He has phoned through (Twitter) calling 3-4ft+ waves hitting the Main Peak and Racetrack with clean and tidy conditions, since then the ESE Trade wind has kicked in so it’s off shore city at Uluwatu.
Weather wise it’s a classic sunny Sunday here in Bali, so if your done with jumpers jackets and beenies grab yourself a ticket to sunny old Bali and have yourself a real good time both in and out of the water.
Alrighty stay tuned peeps and we’ll be back with more and more and more more more real soon.
We would also like to welcome aboard the famous Dreamweaver surf charter boat that runs the only 7 day 3 island (Lembongan, Lombok & Sumbawa) surfing charters to baliwaves.com. Once apon a time these 7 days surf charters were the best value on offer and a must do surf trip, but due to some shonky operators they went silent. But the Dreamweaver charter boat is still delivering groups (private or mixed) to some of the best waves and most destinations a 7 day surf trip can. Anyone wanting to jump on the next trip leaving on the 23rd of June contact me and we will see what we can do for you.
