BALI / INDONESIA
22nd – 23rd July 2018
Hello everyone and thanks for dropping into the baliwaves (kepping you up to date with Bali’s surfing scene for the last 20 years) for our latest news and best possible views. From right here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
Well as most folk know by now there has been a huge fire burn out of control through the Uluwatu area yesterday afternoon. We were actually down at Ulu yesterday morning until 12 noon and everything was still as per normal at that time. So some time in the next few hours that followed the disaster took place. From all the reports that I have read the flames started off somewhere close to or at the Blue Point Villa’s and then with strong wind fanning the flames it quickly spread all the way down to the Ulu cliff gutting every building in it’s path before being extinguished. At this stage there is no news of any loss of life and we certainly hope it stays that way.
Today I’ve loaded a stack of photos from where we have been surfing at Keramas over on the East coast and it was great to catch up with so many local surfers there the last couple of days. Surfing conditions varied from light on shore wind to clean and tidy off shore wind with wave height in the 2-4ft+ range.
Yesterday the 23rd while we were down at Uluwatu wave height on arrival was in the 3-4ft+ class at first but was quickly building in size with each new batch of set waves. By the time we packed up at midday wave height was in the 5-8ft class with some solid clean ups taking out the whole line up. It will be interesting to whats out there this morning the 24th with most forecasts calling for a swell of swells.
Stay tuned to the baliwaves for more news and info through out the morning.
