RIPCURL PADANG PADANG CUP 2018 part 1
Hello everyone and sorry we haven’t got some of these photos from The Cup to you sooner but we have had our hands full with non stop waves here in Bali. On the 15th our morning swell check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban was only showing 3-5 foot waves breaking between Kuta Reef and Airports so we didn’t think The Cup would be running. So we headed down South for Uluwatu to see what was going down. At Uluwatu wave height was up in the 5-6ft range at 8.00AM but the wind was light on shore coming out of the South.
There were half a dozen surfers in the water but nothing too exciting going down and it looked like a lotta hard work out there in the on shore conditions. But as the morning rolled on wave height was growing and pretty soon Uluwatu was delivering some 8ft sets. We hung out at Uluwatu hoping the off shore wind would kick in but by 10.45AM it was still on shore so we packed up and went home.
Driving past Padang Padang and Impossibles we did see a few 4 footers peeling off on Impossible’s and there did seem to be some hope that Padang Padang might have a few waves on the afternoon 0.1mtr Low tide that was scheduled for 5.00PM. We were settled in at home when lucky Ketut checked FB and found out through a friend that The Cup was just starting to get under way. So as fast as we could he motored back down to Padang Padang (45 mins) and into position to shoot as much of the action as we could before the light dropped out from the setting sun.
As it shows there were some solid 6 footers on the set waves and the tide was perfect, even the ESE Trade wind had kicked in to help set the scene for the RipCurl Padang Padang Cup Day 1.
We shot around 1000 photos but like I mentioned we are strapped for time right now so here is just a tease until I can get a bunch more edited and on line, hang in there.
